Re: Event 4- Saturday May 12

I'm going to the SARRC/MARRS races at VIR that weekend. For reasons that are not at all clear, Mother's Day weekend is the traditional date for this event.

Re: Club Training, need a conference room for 1 hour

You might want to put together a one or two page handout/manual for reference. Station Captain training for road racing is mixed. DC Region, for example, has captain-in-training for experienced workers. It's part of their requirement for a National F&C license. The CiT is in charge of the station, b...

Re: Event 3 after action

When I had Koni's on my car and I stiffened the front shocks too much, it wouldn't turn in. Too little rebound on the rear made the car unstable.

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

I see the Challenger has an SLA suspension so the motion ratio is going to be significantly less than 1. Since the wheel rate is the spring rate times the square of the motion ratio, the wheel rate is going to be a lot less than 700 lbs/inch. Here's a link to a short article about calculating spring...

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

700 thinking about going stiffer.. but not sure the dampers would handle much more.

Can you put in a bigger anti-roll bar?

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

NO less would be bad, a certain amount of travel is needed or you hit the stops hard and unload the suspension.... I think DeWitt is asking why John isn't running stiffer springs, which isn't the same thing as travel. Well, yes, more or less. You can see from the video that JB is barely, if at all,...

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

JB,

By uncalibrated eyeball, it looks like there's a lot of vertical suspension travel. What's the motion ratio of the front springs, i.e. what's the actual wheel rate?

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

Thanks for the ride and for sharing the video, DeWitt! Funny how it looks slower on video than it felt in the car. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk You're quite welcome. As I told you, it was nice to know that the car is indeed capable of going fast even if I can't drive it that fast. Major tim...

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

Here's Mark's last run in my car in Session 2 on Friday that moved him from ninth to third in the CAM-C standings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVOJ_nUMHEc The finish was exciting. Obviously he didn't hit any cones, but it was a near thing. The data showed wheel spin. No video of an even faster r...

Re: Regional 2 After-Action Discussion

I recommend reading section 3.7 Vehicle Identification in the Solo Rules as well as Appendix F which gives examples (page 240 of the 2018 draft). https://www.scca.com/downloads/39464-2018-solo-rules-book-1-draft-a/download Class designation must be, according to the rules, smaller than the numbers, ...

Re: Dixie National... the Official Thread.

Steve, Well after a loonngg trip back thanks to the traffic we finally rolled in around 11 last night. I highly recommend Waze or Google Maps for navigation. Coming back from the Sebring 12 hour Sunday (the weather and racing was great there too), we saved at least an hour by taking a detour recomme...

Re: Dixie National... the Official Thread.

Jeff,

Getting the transmission out is the hard part. Once it's out, I would always replace the clutch assembly, pilot bearing and throwout bearing just because you can, unless it's been replaced very recently. I was going to say a few miles, but that's not really the issue with a competition car.

Re: Thanks for a well-run first event of the season!

Well that explains some of why I was slow. My top speed was 64. As I remember, I was a little out of shape going into the showcase turn on that run and at one point was pointed right at the workers.

Re: March 29-31 zMax Match Tour

210 entries so far. If I scanned the entry list summary correctly, CAM-C and AS are the two largest classes with 14 entries each. I'm sure there's a cap, but I don't know what it is.

Re: Looking for tires for a C5Z

I'm running 335 rival s on 11 inch rims and it does very well with the right air pressure, stretching the tire isn't always the best way to go. Neither is pinching always the best way to go. According to the specs at Tire Rack, an 11 inch rim is in the center of the 10.5-11.5 inch rim width range f...
