Re: Renting a tow vehicle?
Uhaul definitely will rent you a pickup truck with receiver and an auto transport trailer to get all 4 wheels off the ground. My friend who has a truck but no trailer gets the auto transport periodically for about $60/day. Their trucks are $20/day + 49 cents/mile. So for a two-night weekend in Atlan...

Re: Lets talk racing seats
The miata is a small car. A buddy of mine used to track his miata before he bought an Ariel Atom. He's about 6'2 250 or so, and he did fine with an aluminum seat like a kirkey or something mounted to the floor. The bigger issue for him wasn't seat width, it was actually head clearance under a rollba...

Re: Lets talk racing seats
I got a pair of sparco sprint 2014's (they changed the name of the V's) for $345 apiece new. They fit in the miata, and I like them. You're welcome to check them out sometime if you want. I really didn't want to deal with a back brace, and by the time I bought a kirkey + an SCCA-approved back brace ...

Re: cars and coffee
All three have facebook pages where they post dates (LC, EAG, and harper's). The LC ones are the third saturday of every month though. Next one should be nov 15, if they keep doing them that late in the year.
I may see you there at one of them then.

I give - Justification for long sleeves/pants at track day?
A lot of orgs require long sleeve shirt and pants "for safety." Fire suit is optional. The fire suit is self-explanatory, but how is wearing long sleeves safer? I don't care that much, I can chuck on a shirt, I'm just wondering. A cotton shirt in a fire doesn't seem like a whole lot of hel...

Re: Should engine turn over easily by hand without oil?
Oh ok. Yeah, it's without a flywheel right now, but that makes sense. I was planning to do a timing belt, water pump, etc while it's on a stand... I figured I'd try to check it as much as possible before the condition of the engine becomes my fault by me cracking it open. But, yeah, you're right, th...

Re: Should engine turn over easily by hand without oil?
Negative, but I'll have one available as soon as I get the old engine out. Are you suggesting I hook up a starter on the stand?

Re: Should engine turn over easily by hand without oil?
That is a good point. Thanks for the input. I just didn't expect it to be tough to turn and then let go and spin a little on its own, that was sort of weird. But, based on experience levels between me and the planet miata guys, it's more likely they sold me a good engine and i'm worrying too much th...

Re: Should engine turn over easily by hand without oil?
Yep, that's exactly my question. I think this might be normal, and this engine just has better compression than my last two. I went with a planet miata engine because they put them in a test stand and run them up to temperature and do compression checks, so I'm guessing my test is more likely bad th...

Should engine turn over easily by hand without oil?
New to me engine just came in, they shipped it sans oil. It's supposedly compression tested and run to temperature, but it's also pretty filthy. I was trying to do some quick sanity tests before I actually put it in the car. Should it turn over smoothly with a wrench on the crank, no intake or exhau...

Yeah, it is definitely bench-pressable. It's harder getting to the top bolts than it is removing / reinstalling it.

Re: Miata bump stop controversy.
Made your own for a Miata? I'm sure you know more about this than me, but the miata bumpstops specifically have a spring rate intentionally, and you're supposed to ride on the bumps during hard cornering, sort of using the stops to act as a two-stage spring. I don't know what'd happen if I made my o...
