Re: hey old timers..

After the Fiat 850 (I agree - I think Mark Irwin bought it) Eddie co-drove a highly modified MG midget on 10-12" race slicks for a few years. Pretty consistent FTD car (back when we were running 40 car events). The person who put the SSB Citation through the fence at Chilhowee during fun runs (...

Re: Brake Problem

The ABS has a pressure dump that sends fluid into an accumulator instead of the line when a certain pressure is reached. This pressure is seen as "way too much brake pressure for the current speed" and allows the pedal to sink into the floor when at standstill instead of blowing a line. W...

Re: Chief Check In Event #1

Yes - I *think* the book is in the trailer.

I have no plans to continue the hall of shame this year - at least not until we have a venue which needs it.

My tentative plan is to spend this season mostly in the pursuit of installed bodywork...

Re: Rust in iron engine block.

heh, so the same 1990 Bronco... First time I did a front brake job on it took 3 days, probably 24 hours labor total, Haynes manual in hand. By the third or fourth time (drove it for years) I got it down to maybe eight hours total for a front brake job. It required complete disassembly of the 4wd hub...

Re: Rust in iron engine block.

I have never had an "easy" heater core install, so it was mostly based on assumption. I'm pretty sure those were the only two "easy" heater core changes I ever had. Makes it easy to remember what was put together with any thought toward future serviceability (you don't often see...

Re: Rust in iron engine block.

The radiator, although annoying, isn't near the PITA that the heatercore is. Maybe that is true, maybe not. I put off changing the heater core in a 1989 F250 for years because I thought it was going to be a major PITA. When it couldn't be put off any more, turns out it was relatively painless - it ...

We always referred to those as west coast or kalifornia mirrors (not a trademark).

I've got no help on the rust - sorry.

Re: ABS unit unplug

Another point on pedal effort with a manual MC. I was reading up on this the other day and many people (at least with a Miata) will move the pivot point on the pedal, 10mm or so, to help with pedal effort. Keeping the pinion 90* to the MC but the point of leverage moved upwards. Just another data p...

Re: ABS unit unplug

This is a cheap/easy solution, but I believe it will increase pedal effort (or the distance you have to push the pedal, or both, not sure) to produce the same pressure in the front and therefore the same stopping performance. Just noting this for posterity. I'm cheap/easy, so if my ABS delete doesn...

Re: ABS unit unplug

So what I'm telling you is that the 2 piston Cobra (and late model) front calipers have so much more piston area than your 38mm piston rear calipers you're not likely to ever get effective rear braking out of them with a conventional tandem MC in a heavily sprung car (=less weight transfer to front ...

Re: ABS unit unplug

Keep in mind that a prop valve can only reduce pressure. If you're starting with a system that is biased towards the front (either from staggered MC pistons, different caliper piston sizes , rotor diameters, or some combination of these) and adding a prop valve onto the rear lines, it's only going ...

Re: RE: Re: Trailer question

A little further drive, but supposedly no sales tax so might be worth it. Okay - further information that may help someone... Most any trailer can be bought from most any dealer (at least in the south) without paying sales tax - all you have to do is tell them it's for agricultural use. (or that's ...

Or maybe both...
