Are you looking for American cars only? I'd say the F-body/Mustang types are about it. There are a couple of good older German and Japanese cars in that price bracket, too, though...

I'm familiar with the "lifetime fill" BMW & Mini recommend. Regardless of what your owner's manual recommends, I'd change it, and change it regularly. I mean, what does a lifetime entail? Your lifetime? My lifetime? The life of the trans? The life of the car? Until the warranty runs ou...

She's wanting something sportier. She's looked into 3-series lucas, your suppose to be all over this!! lol Well, you pretty much know all the positives/negatives of those already, I think. I will say that if I could do it again, I'd go straight for an older, well-maintained E30 versus a newer one (...

I still hear rumors about the seals going out in the new rotaries :-\ There are TSBs out for RX-8s for replacing the engine, much like what James went through with his revup. I agree with the above, the oil consumption is prohibitive for a girl's car IMO. I can't get past the Mini's really funky in...

I agree with the above. I haven't ever driven or worked on one, but they seem to be a pretty good/serviceable RWD platform...I have heard that the F-series engines tend to have serious oil consumption issues, but I couldn't say from any personal experience. I'd definitely opt for the AP2, even if on...

Blah. There are many more Miatas that are better suited for autox for a lot less money. I went down that road...I had a '93 LE.

So the only disadvantage of leaded fuel is fouling O2 sensors? In cars designed for unleaded, that is definitely not the only disadvantage. yeah, like the O2 sensors in your header...that help your engine tune for the fuel....so youd be up shits creek basically Lucas  They'd be offset from the...

Also be sure to have two people, as sucking up too much will cause the engine to bog. Someone needs to be inside the car keeping the revs up. pfft my 00 head ticks more than my 97 head did haha. Do you do have HLAs? By the way, type ['99-'00 miata head swap] into Google. Click the first result. :sho...

The end-all, be-all alternative is a '99-'00 head swap, which has solid lifters.

You might consider heavier oil, too. The 5W-30 recommendation is pretty highly debated among enthusiasts...I was running 15W-40 in mine.

So the only disadvantage of leaded fuel is fouling O2 sensors? Hmm...my car adjusts it's valve & ignition timing depending on what octane fuel you're running. I guess there's a possibility that I could see a substantial gain running higher octane fuel (with test pipes), especially during the sum...

Definitely a good day--it's nice to have an extra car or two for once. We'll have to do another run again soon, maybe on a weekend to accomodate those who couldn't make it today.
