While I have no intention of running in cam, I love the idea of the class and how it's not a national jacket class. That's when a Franken-car gets built by someone like Detroit speed or something and the class goes to shit, as the regular dude can't compete without a truckload of cash.

Ehh, the genesis of the class was the Goodguys / Bill Howell RTTH stuff. Last one of those events I did, FTD was swapping between me, Kelly Munsey's Impala, and an Ultima GTR. The DSE "Test Cars," AirRide car with "shaved race tires," and Chevy Highperformance Magazine's 2010 Camaro with full suspension and a blown LS3 were all there and well off the pace.

The class has gotten a lot faster and more serious since SCCA picked it up and you have people that can actually drive in the class now. The franken cars have always been there.

I hope it stays "non-jacket" If I get smooth enuff in my Dodge and want to make a run at the jacket... Ill run STP. Where rules are in place..well, to some extent.

Excuse me for not following here, but why does it matter if it's a "jacket class" or not.

Jackets make it all srsbznss. You get top notch drivers and people willing to exploit the rules, or lack of. Right now, CAM is mostly a lot of fun.

By the way, the same thing happens in SCCA Club Racing. You get a successful Regional class and pretty soon there's pressure to make it a National Class so you can go to the Runoffs. When that happens, the price of doing business climbs and the fun level drops. The Improved Touring classes have, so far, been an exception. But to some extent they have their own run off races, the ARRC at Road Atlanta.

I don't buy into this theory as much as a lot of people do.

Um with you on that Steve, I think when contingency is available at the cam challenge events it will start to get real. It is available at national and pro and match events and it's pretty intense at those, Bristol was proof of that.

The contingency prizes in club racing are a little bigger and you get a lot more seat time, but that's about right in the more exotic classes. Spec Miata and Spec Racer Ford are a bit less expensive.

I know you have personally witnessed this at the club racing level.

Which reminds me I need to look into how a $50K Gen3 Spec-wrecker Ford with an open tire rule compares to the $10-$20K Formula F in CMod.

As for the club racing level, my whole cars have cost less than what some folks spend on tires in one weekend.
