Mazda #5, Miata #2 - 2016 Mazda MX5 Club

Post by thrdeye »

For those of you not on FB, I was able to pick up a new (to me) MX5. Found this car in GA as a lease turn in with 2300 miles on it, otherwise I would have waited to get one. I'll be in the RX8 until at least Nationals.

This thing should be a god PSCC car. It's definitely faster out of the hole than the 8. Been working on practicing my heel-toe for national courses.

1) How is there a lease turn in already?

2) Ryan is going to have to open up a side skirt savings account.

1 - I think a lot of people go into a lease biting off more than they can chew and put themselves on the bleeding edge of car they can afford. Leases on MX5 aren't cheap - $400 last I looked and that's for a Sport. So, I assume this car would have been a $500+ lease. If you look on autotrader or similar, you'll see lots of MX5's with under 10k on them. Sometimes folks have kids or find out that they can't live with a car like this on a daily basis. Anyway, I do know that the car was titled and this wasn't 2300 demo miles.

2 - There's a way to secure them with some screws on the bottom side. But yep, cone damage is definitely going to have to be part of my codrive agreement. Although - I did hear they are pretty cheap.

Haha.

I think I could make a business of just prepping this thing and renting it out! I have 8 codrivers now.

Are you going to stay in CS or prep it to STR? I understand there are killer headers and a tune for this car that give you an additional 40hp or so and lots more torque across the entire RPM range.

CS. ST* prep is too much effort and money for me. Hard enough to figure out stock setups.

Awesome purchase! How do you fit in this one? Does your head rub the top?

Very cool. Congrats!
Is that the darker red? Love that color. They had one at the Daytona 24 on display and Kim lived the color in the sun
