In search of a course design artist protege & worker chief

Post by thrdeye »

So the discussion in the Octoberfast NCM thread got me thinking. It appears that I may be handling the majority of course design for the foreseeable future. But, what we, as a club, could really use is someone (or preferably several someones) that wants to learn how to build fun, fair, and safe courses. If you don't run pro, even better. But really, the main requirement is a willingness to learn and that you run the majority of our events.

Course design is a lot of work, has a pretty steep learning curve, and takes some thick skin (everyone's a critic, especially those Safety Stupids :D ). But, it can also be very rewarding. If you are interested in this, please let me know and lets talk. Perhaps we could get some basic training in at ADESA or the last PSCC event.

Some required reading - http://www.houscca.com/solo/courses/Cou ... gn_5_3.pdf

:!: Also - we'll need a new worker chief for the next two events.

That last Pelli course you designed was fun.

Has anyone in ETR tried to map out the course beforehand like some of the other regions? CCR is the best at this as they even hand out a course map at registration.... I could see this being a fun / infuriating task.

I do, but it is impossible to have 100 pct accuracy. However, the more thought you put in, measure distances beforehand, the better the result, imo.

I would like to do it some also. But living in kingsport would make it impossible to setup coarses in knoxville. Bristol I always help on but those are big events and needs someone with experience.

I added the link to the course design "manual" in the first post, and below.....it is *required* reading. It's pretty interesting though.
