Wilmington

Post by timray »

The plug has officially been pulled on future Wilmington events.
Get after it JY, maybe we can host not only a match, but possibly a tour and pro.

That's really sad! Was so looking forward to Wilmington this coming year.

Wilmington was great and an easy drive.

I've said before but will post here.

Between the way the car industry builds vehicles (nannies and whatnot that you can't turn off, tuning and software that only a few can manipulate ) and the fact that *good* quality sites are nearly impossible to get and keep, autocross is an endangered sport.

Something like SF Region is doing (lease of a dedicated facility in a major metropolitan area) is what regions will have to band together and try to accomplish.

As Wayne Henry said years ago.....one way or another this sport is going to get way more expensive in the next decade.

SF region has built their own race track and is in the process of building their own autocross facility. I think that is a very smart move on their part.

Oh even better. I thought they were leasing something and renovating!

Looks like they currently have exactly one usable venue within 100 miles of the bay area: http://www.sfrscca.org/autocross/sites/

Pretty pathetic state of affairs given the number of abandoned military bases / airfields in that area.

Of course they required WoO (sprint cars) to run SuperTrapps at Baylands + San Jose fairgrounds 25+ years ago - and those tracks are long gone too....

Heh - I also see it costs you $20 to get across the Oakland bay bridge with a trailer now.

They can have my part of all that... :pirate:
