STM and nationals questions.

Post by thewelder »

So the car I just traded for has 300# of weight in it to make class weight. I was thinking about losing the weight and running STM. Does it have to be street legal. Also what do you guys run when you go to a national even. Thanks.

Have to make it eligible for a national class to run a national event. I have 30-35# of weight on the kart to make it legal. Suck it up buttercup and just do it all heavy like

::Edit:: STM is not a national class. We allowed it for the BMS Match Tour last year since it was also to be regional points event. STM folks didn't show up...

This is totally personal opinion but I think STM is a tough sell for the national events this year...especially the champ tour

I will read the rules again. I guess it is either XP or EM. XP has a better pax and I think the same weight.

Not sure if vote was taken but the consensus was NO STM this year since none of these will be counted towards ETR points. ..last year STM was a bust.

Gotta agree with Paul. JY convinced SCCA to include STM last year and it was a bust as far as participation when you consider the numbers that we typically have local.

Local STM is run what you brung on street tires. No national class is similar to that ruleset.

As others mentioned, we lobbied national pretty heavily to include STM for the Match last year due to the numbers we have at our local events. It flopped.

I would say there is probably zero chance for STM at the Champ but if there is some sort of groundswell of STM guys that want to run the Match, we can ask national.

It flopped because of the pax modifier that nationals imposed. It was too high and pretty much guaranteed no STM cars would get any elimination runs, making it not worth the trip for STM folks.... just sayin'.

We did have 2 STM cars make it into a shootout at the match tour.

Here's the other thing with STM, now that they are on 200 TW tires they CAN run in the class that their car should/would be in if they ran in a national class and probably have a better pax in the national class.

Running STM was a waste of time. The live timing didn't work right and the event cost was over twice as much. It was a good experience but not one I'd be willing to do again in an STM car. It's all about that PAX.

The only reason the STM cars made it into the shootout was the amount of others that left, we had no chance based on our ability. It was pure luck they made it into the shootout.

I also think all of our cars are outside any street class. Maybe Joey could run in STU or STX, but the rest of us would be in a race tire class. Not complaining, just saying. I don't think people in STM really care about national level stuff anyway. It's a fun class with good local competition, nationals is such serious business it really took the fun out of it. It was still interesting to see how organized and efficient it was. Also the pointy end of SM/SSM was pretty cool.

It seems that STM would be a better fit at a champ tour where there isn't pax to worry about...

We told me that to run STM a car had to meet rules for a class- any class.
