My Amod is going away now with pic of new car

Post by thewelder »

It is loaded to go to its new home tomorrow. It's heading way down south. That is good because it likes warmer weather anyway. If the deal goes through I will post some pics of the new ride tomorrow. Chad

Haven't decided yet. It's a lotus seven clone. It will be either Emod, XP, or STM. If STM I can remove 300# of weight. But would have to find some 200tw tires. Anyone got any 15" 245s laying around.

Fastest 200tw 15" tire is going to be the 225 Rival S followed by the 225 Kumho and both will need 15x9 rims. The only 200tw 245 is the Maxis VR1 tire, but it is not that fast. On the upside, 15x9 rims are cheap (Advanti S1 or the Konigs from goodwin) and so are the tires (at least the kumhos).

The tire you need is the Bridgestone RE71R, by far the best one available till someone runs the new bfg rival s to see if the new compound is better than the old rival s.

I doubt I will buy tires before the season starts. So I will be running EM unless the SEB says I can run XP.

Chad, I used to have a Locost that I build using the plans in the book with a lot of parts sourced from Champion Motorsports in Alabama (long since out of business).

Do you know what plans yours is based on or anything about its source? What drivetrain is in it?

It's a mcsorley 442. Miata rear subframe the RX7 lsd. SR20DET motor and trans. It's pretty rough right now. Plan on continuing the shake downs this year and making it street legal. Then taking it apart to paint and finalize everything next winter.

You're gonna need some 10" slicks for that thing. Trust me.

I know. I just want to remove the 300# of weight that is in it for Emod. But doesn't look like I will be able to

That thing looks awesome! I have an RX7 diff in my Miata as well. They are stupid strong but you can feel a difference in how it operates as temps go up. Let me know if you ever shim it for more preload. That's my next project and I would love to get another data point from someone. I think that would make a fun STM car as well but, slicks would really be awesome on it. Is it still a stock turbo SR?

If you run all the wheel you want, I think the 225 Rival S is fastest compared to the skinny RE71R's.

Also, I generally hate these kinds of cars, but this one seems cool.

If you are sticking with street tires then can you not move up to a 25" tall tire on a 17" wheel? A 255 wide Rival S or RE71R will definitely be better than the 225 offerings. The cg rise is small compared to what you will gain in tire contact area.
