Lol... I'm surprised they didn't completely disallow them.

They didn't like any of the letters asking for the NB miata to go to STX from STR. Again.

At some point, I'll be writing for NB's and Spyders to go to STS, but now is not the time. Need to start seeing a dropoff in STS and ES first.

I don't know how I feel about that open ECU rule for ST*. Sounds like an opportunity for Whitener-like competitor to put a $5000 Motec in a $2500(before parts) Miata.

Exactly. They are well on the road to making ST a Street Prepared category with Street tires.

With the easier pax it will make the true prepared classes diminish numbers and possibly even kill that class.

Well right now I'm effectively running a standalone as a piggyback. The stock ECU is spliced in and does enough things to make it all compliant, especially running the obd2 port. I've just got an ms3 on it (running via stock MAF sensor!). With a relatively simple engine I don't know what a $5k motec would get you considering things like traction control cannot be added as well as the inability to add new sensors to the engine for better control. The new rules may actually greatly simplify what is needed to have a compliant setup similar to mine. A lot of the wiring I did would not be needed.

Anyhow, I'm not really sure how the NB would have a chance in STS. If it went to an open diff with narrower wheels and tires it seems unlikely that it would be competitive given how much more it weighs. I honestly think STX is a reasonably place for the car considering how much less tire you can put on it compared to the other class favorites in STX.

Motec on a miata was a single example. Just pointing out that there's absurd options and the people that can go that route, will go that route. This rule-set WILL drive up the cost of ST* classes, 100%.

With 245/40/15 Rival-S and RS4 coming out soon I think the NB would be the car to beat in STX, probably won't happen though.

Yeah that tire choice might change the car's competitiveness around in STX, but we still don't have those tires on shelves. With the current 225 sizes available it does not appear to overachieve for STX. Even if those tires were available for the NB, it shouldn't make it faster than the ND miata in STR. It's pretty much a dead end car at this point for national level events.

I'm just sad I have one in ST* trim and that it doesn't appear to be able to be class competitive. That's why I'm moving to AS.
