Blytheville Pro

Post by JohnSmith »

So I signed up for my first ProSolo event for Blytheville. What do I need to know that is different from other events?

They are much more awesomer than regular events! [emoji16]

You will want to be sure to do practice starts, especially if you have never done Christmas tree starts. They also typically have a newbie orientation on Saturday morning. Dont miss it.

These events are much faster paced than regular events and they change workers on the fly. Be sure to ask an ETR person or SCCA official if you are unsure of something. You will need to be on your toes.

A few things.

A) Like Mark said - there is no stopping. Once Heat 1 is finished, the event will move right into heat 2 with very little, if any, downtime.
B) You get 12 runs - 4 each on Sat AM, Sat PM, Sun AM, Your best run from each side counts no matter when it was taken and these are combined for your total time. You will make all four runs without ever leaving the car. If you start on the left side, you go immediately to the right side after finishing, and start again - you alternate sides til you have all 4 runs down.
C) You can have someone near the staging lanes to keep your pressures in check, but you can't get out of the car and there's no tire spraying allowed.
D) The tree matters - Your time starts when the light is green, so if you have a reaction time of .200, and your opponent has .050, they already have .150 on you before the run even really starts. OH - reaction times are a little weird. A perfect RT is .500, not .000. So if you cut a .567 light for example, that's really good.
E) Make sure you know how best to stage your car and how the Pre-Stage and Stage lights work. If you stage too deep, you might have a tendency to redlight (which is bad)
F) The top 32 in PAX go to a challenge for Sunday afternoon. It's actually the one time that spectating autocross is kind of exciting.

This was supposed to be fixed for this year, but last year, cars that squatted on launch would pull the nose of the car above the beam and false trip the lights. The solution was to tape a cardboard flapper under the front of your car.

It wouldn't hurt to make sure you have access to some cardboard and tape to rig something up if necessary.

The lights are always supposed to be fixed. It just changes which cars have issues.

It doesn't appear that I will be able to be there for the school. Guess it will be extra exciting for my first runs.

Practice starts on your own are separate from the school, if that helps.

Practice starts are ideal, but if you have any drag racing experience and understand the basics, it isn't a huge deal to not get any. You are likely going to get faster over the weekend anyway.

We'll probably head out Thursday night after work. Can we drop trailers on site?
