A little info please

Post by Jam15 »

Hey all, i actually went this morning and watched you all run at bms. I'm going to participate in the autox on June 4th and need help with my class. My car is a 2002 Camaro ss convertible. The only mods are lowering springs, shocks, Toyo proxes, a roll bar and a cat back exhaust. I still have factory cats. Thanks in advance.

Your car sounds like it would be legal for STP or CAM C. Are your tires 200 treadwear or higher?

Unfortunately, the tires take you out of those classes. Your options for those will be ESP, CP, or XP.

If you have the means to do so, I would suggest seeing about purchasing one of the 200 TW options.

We have a very healthy local XP class, unlike CP and ESP. We also have a local retailer for used slicks, which are much cheaper than competitive street tires

I do have a set of street tires I could use if I need to. They are not nearly as grippy, but I guess they would work if need be.

Can I go ahead and sign up for a class and show up to the event and let whoever is in charge place me wherever I'd fit in the best? I'll bring both sets of tires just in case. I do track day events a lot and it's simply "run what you brung." All these classes confuses the heck out of me. Lol

For the first few events, I'd run the better tires, then once you decide what kinda autocrosser you're gonna be, pick a tire.

In other words, the 200 TW street tires (RE71, Rival) are AWESOME. Other street tires are really terrible for autocross. The Nexen and Falken offerings are also improving.

Register for XP. That way you can run with your better tires and have some competition. Autocross is always more fun on good tires. As stated before, you could also run ESP or CP, but you'd be in a class by yourself.

Whelp, I'm registered for the xp class! Should I go ahead and pay or wait and pay at the event? Or does it matter either way?

Preferred pay cash at the event unless you need to pay by credit card then you need to do that online.
