It is 1.5 combined and if you look at the 52.3xx time I ran on the match tour and when I broke out it was .9xx so the 52 seconds will be what both courses will be for the combined 2 courses and that was about a perfect run that I broke out on. That still gives me almost .6xx seconds left to break out on. That small time on each side will be plenty good for the 1.5 second rule to not bite any or just a few that are truly trying to sand bag.

Is it 1.5 over the course of the event? Or if I break out by a second in the bracket, do I get 1.5 seconds from the new dial in each round?

Once you set your dial in that is the time that you can't go over 1.5 faster for both courses combined.

Yea....the more I hear....the more Im realising this isnt for me.

If its .75 per side (1.5 seconds over both courses) and your dialin is set on your first 2 or 3 runs......Half the field will breakout and the other half sandbagged

They either sandbagged while they were qualifying or sandbagged while they were in eliminations to stay consistsnt.

The whole point of bracket racing is to sandbag.....(go to a NHRA national event and watch the cars launch hard.....idle on the throttle stop for 300 feet then run hard out the back)

I do howver LOVE the concept....just needs a few tweeks and Id be all about it

If I was in town, I'd come support the event. But I feel same as Eric and Rife on several things.

If we use your match tour times on a basically a 50 second course with morning runs and evening runs, Chris, Steve, Eric and Randall would not have broke out over the 1.5 second rule, not even close. Not sure why the issue is that hard to understand. The break out of 1.5 on two courses that are not over 35 seconds will be very hard to achieve unless you are truly sand bagging as most on the match tour runs got the fastest time on the first 2 runs. No big deal if it doesn't happen we just cancel the event. I guess most are afraid of winning money....lol

But those 4 drivers have, at minimum, 50 years combined autocross experience and can generally get a pretty solid first run out of the car. You really can't expect most drivers not to get faster over the course of a few runs. Even then, you can't look at one event and draw a conclusion on what the breakout allowance should be. There have been several events this year that I dropped significant time from run 1 to run 6. I've seen a lot of other folks at national events put down a hero run as well at pro solos. For example, Shrivastava found .800 on one side at Toledo on a 34 second course on his last run.

He would still have .700 left before breaking out.

We can talk about it tonight and yes I am missing your point cause I am not seeing a issue with the 1.5 break out rule. When we first started talking about the break out rule is was at .750 and I said that was too tight and we went to 1.5.

Point:

Very consistent national drivers can sometimes find huge chunks of time. It's very likely that many other drivers with less experience that are less consistent will find a lot of time and breakout unintentionally.

Lets say that I run 31.5 and 36.5 setting my dial in.

I run 31.3 and 36.3 in qualifying. I'm at 4 tenths.

Round of 32, I run a 31.1 and 36.1. I'm at 8 tenths.

Round of 16, I run a 30.9 and 35.9. I'm at 1.2 tenths.

Round of 8, I run a 30.7 and 35.7. I've broken out and I lose.

Nobody would call that sandbagging.
