Had a couple cars take out a bunch of cones with spins but I did say don't red flag the cars behind them unless they will catch the car that is/was stopped.

I thought the course was really good for Smokies... no nasty pinch turns and it flowed well. I just wish I hadn't had 320 TW, six year old all season tires on the old Miata. ;)

Speaking of that, Jess seemed to enjoy driving the Miata. If anyone has or sees a good deal on some used RE-71s in 15" that will fit a '90 Miata (195/205/225) let me know.

My thoughts on #9 .....I was a little nervous at first thinking about my responsibilities and wanting everything to run smooth but from the general feedback I received at the event I'm pretty pleased. Six runs a short break between heats and still finished early. First you can't have a good event without a good course so my thanks go to John Brown for tweaking what we normally do at Smokies and made it interesting and FUN....it was a great course and many people told me that throughout the day. Just got this email as I'm typing

"Dog gone you guys. uncle dave hamilton told me you all made an
excellent track sunday there. if i had know you all were going to make
a faster funner track like bristol i would have signed up. last two
times i went to kodak i did not like the slow course and have not come
back. sorry i missed it. "

We were a little short at some worker spots ...Bob got setup done and the timing crew Brian, Dave, Jess, Ben and Victoria which I thought might be short on people did a great job. I believe the RED FLAG at the top you are talking about was gas leak on the last run on the red BSP Corvette. Whatever it was did not make the shoot unsafe to resume runs. It was thrown mostly as a caution. I checked the car in grid and while it did smell of gas we could not find and visual signs of anything leaking.

Moving on many people commented on our PA they said finally they could hear all the announcements while on the course walk. The music to them seemed like a National type event...well received. All the chiefs did a great job...thanks to all of you. Had many people tell me they enjoyed the day and that made me feel good. I think pushing the Facebook page at the drivers meeting must have worked as we had a tick up in likes and people sharing our page last night ...which is a good thing. The guy from Austrailia told me it was on of the best events he's gone in a long time. Tried to get them all to attend Bristol but said probably can't make it. Great job by all core peeps let's make a big push for the last Bristol event.

Only real complaint on the course is that would have liked to have seen more room on the finish.

I backed up finish two times to get it where it was doable in high HP cars, it was sketchy on the first placement and still an issue with the second one so the third one was good as John slowed down the entry into the finish and that made the third finish line ok with safety.

well..... just start letting off sooner Steve. Problem solved.

if 500 plus HP cars could get slowed down... you had to be safe..

The finish worried me some and I was sideways/slowing 3 of my runs. If the brakes were still an issue on the Mustang it would have been really scary.

Overall, good Smokies course.

It's funny what folks perceive as fast. I never even touched the limiter in my car.

I think the speed sense is how fast you are thru out the entire course, as opposed to just hitting high speeds at one or two parts for just a small section of the course. This course did carry speed thru out the course and not just a couple small section.

Yep, average maintained speed with the right input density of elements makes for a good time.

Edit: I was ok at the finish except or the first run (vid to come) but I never felt comfortable in the left hander going into the top lot.

That was a tough one to try and get the right angle going up the hill and I think it was ok but maybe a longer run would have been a touch better but it would have also been a lot faster....

I was lifting before finish.... after my 1st 3 runs.

Kevin and I both had "ice mode" issues at the finish probably because the inside front was unloaded from the last little kink. There just wasn't room to wait to get the car settled to get on the brakes
