I've entertained running STP next year at the Pros for 2 reasons, first being so I wouldn't get lumped in one big group with CAM S and second it would give Deonna a ladies class to run in. Only thing stopping me is I'd have to take my front/rear shock braces off and now put the backseat in. The only time I remember STP making a class was Toledo Champ. I just looked up results and I would have finished 3/6 right behind Cindy and 4.534 behind class winner vs where I finished in CAM 5/10 and 6.271 behind the leader.

Oh, I'm definitely not saying that it'd cost more in STP than in CAM. I just think for the value of having a fun car, you can spend your money better in CAM. If you do tuning, you don't have to worry about ECU rules. If you do headers, you don't have to worry about cats. You don't have to worry about tire/wheel sizes. You don't have to worry about all the nitpicky ST stuff when building your suspension. You can make changes that will make a big difference on the autocross course like gearing and aero.

Gearing is open in STP. I can already envision having to invest 10K in a Supercharger. Unless I move to STP.

Im currently not a big believer in Aero in A-X. (again..yet)

So, for you pony car folks...

What is the cheapest (car + build) that I could have a competitive car in STP/CAM that I'd still want to drive to events?

Something liken to Randys Mustang.. Id imagine. Fun- 11 out of 10. Competitive- ?? out of 10.. 7 to 9 maybe?

Driven to events... 4 out of 10. lol (love ya car tho Randy)!

Berrys car... 9-10 fun factor.. 9-10 competition.... drive to events... 8-9.

cost... uh,yes! mucho.

I believe your "driven to events" is gonna be your limiting factor. That category almost negates you go with a pretty new, less than ruleset car.

Id not want to head out to an event with a maxed out CAM car...

My car as it is ..is a blast to drive still.

What about a maxed out CAM car would make it bad to drive to events?

Suspension should be relatively compliant. Every car has to pass sound. You make plenty of power, so you don't have to get dumb with radio/ac. You can make power easily, so you probably don't need a dumb knife-edge tune. If you did aero, I could see not wanting that, but you could probably make it removeable.

There's a lot of weight reduction still to be had Steve in a maxed out CAM car that would get rid of a lot of the "comforts" inside.

Like what?

Pull the back seat, but that doesn't matter. Light battery, but that is all of ST. Race seat (good place to spead money to get a comfortable one).

Did it rain on CAMC this year? The top domestic in FS would have been 2nd in CAMC and FS ran morning Tues/Weds. The STP winner would have won CAM by 1.5 seconds.

Don't know anything about the car, but Ryan Otis is a badass. Multi-time champ in multiple classes. In addition to winning STP, I'm pretty sure he won CAM in the PS series, too.

Don't really get CAM vs FS, assuming it was dry... which I think it was all week.

The winning STP car has been questioned many times but no papers thrown. As soon as someone throws papers on it, it will be found illegal. I have talked to many that run cam and STP and almost all of them have said that car is illegal. I would tend to agree with the times it ran.

Didn't you just put in a 3.09 ring and pinion that reduced torque at the wheels by 20% because it was hard to drive with the 3.90? Now you want more power??? Top speed in gear, of course, was also a factor. A supercharger with fairly low boost would likely give you a lot more low end torque, though. I've thought about getting one too even with over 100,000 miles on the engine.

I'm planning on going from a 3.55 to a 3.15 over the winter. If you do the calculation, a 3.55 with BFG's on 18 inch wheels has the same speed in gear as a 3.73 with Bridgestones on 19 inch wheels. A 3.15 with BFG's is the same as a 3.31 with Bridgestones. 3.31 was the ratio of choice for the 2011-2014 Mustangs in FS when 19 inch wheels were required. The 2015 and later Mustangs with the performance package only came with a 3.73 diff. They stopped being competitive in FS even with the IRS.

STP was invented because pony cars couldn't be made competitive in STX or STU.
