If CS runs a 60, here's how it goes to tie up at 48.3 in pax
Class RAW
AS 59.33660934 48.3
CS 60 48.3
ES 61.37229987 48.3
CAMC 59.19117647 48.3

Dam, I may have to run ESP next year as they got a little more than most did on adjustment.

I’ve been wondering this for a while, but what do you think about moving the RX-8 to D-Street?

People are starting to bounce that idea around, though to my knowledge, no one has formally requested it.

I don't think it'd get much traction because the cars were pretty fast in CS, are kinda getting old, and have a bad rep. I don't think rulemakers will see a class that potentially has the RX8 as top dog as an overall good thing for solo.

Looks like moving the RX-8 from CS to DS for 2019 is out for member comment now in the December Fastrack:

https://www.scca.com/pages/fastrack-news

What do you think of the competitiveness of the RX-8 against the ND Miata in CS? I’ve never driven one, though I would guess I would be faster in a CS-prepped Miata. Or possibly an NB mazdaspeed Miata on some tight, uphill courses.

Since I am pretty new to this, why does the age of the car and the [reliability] reputation discourage classing a car where it could be competitive for a high trophy spot? How is it bad for the sport?

The RX-8 used to compete against the twins without the FRS port-installed suspension in CS a few years ago in street. It is also very cheap to purchase and operate for autocross in total cost vs a 2013+ FRS/BRZ or 2015+ WRX (‘04-06 RX8 $5000-$8000, or $8-$11k with a replacement engine included; vs $15-25k+ for a newer, aforementioned vehicle)?

Lot of changes proposed. Everyone that has an interest in competing in street should take a look.

This is my personal opinion and nothing that has ever formally been stated, though I know lots of committee members seem to feel the same way....

I looked at 2015 CS results - pre ND. 63 entries. Perception was that the RX8 was a better CS car than a twin - more wheel/tire, more 2nd gear, did better in '14. In spite of that, I counted 34 entries for twins and 19 for RX8's. If they twins were considered not competitive at all, fewer would run them. See post-ND CS numbers.

I don't think you are going to see 50-60 car classes in any class that the RX8 is the clear cut favorite. So any chance that the RX8 is a clear cut top car is a risk to the health of the class.

With that said, with all the proposed moves, I don't think the RX8 would be a favorite in DS.

I'd take an 8 against the twins. Thing is you start to get into some really weird course dependencies in DS if the 8 is there. AWD vs Revs vs all-around ok car.

And Kevin...generally the harder or more expensive a car is to own the less likely it will be classed competitively.

Since I'll be in an RX8 next year it will probably get moved to A mod.

I heard there was a proposal to move all RX8s to SM, regardless of prep level. They were considered to be too fast for any class. :fight:

I think I will have to run ESP for the 2018 local season to focus on getting ready for Lincoln in Sept.
