Most people run novice to compare their times against drivers that don't have years of experience. But, as DeWitt said, if you just want to run uncontested, you can pick a class and do that. Not much fun though

That's what I had thought. But when I looked at the 2017 Championship Points to check on SMF, Novice was listed. Four people were shown who had scored points in five or more events, so I mentioned it.

Those are auto generated by axware and it would be a pain to remove them from that report.

My two cents - don't run novice. I never did and I think it's kind of pointless because of the PAX system. Run the largest class that your car will fit into, even if you're outmatched by HP or drive wheels. This used to be STM, but attendance has fallen off. If I were you, even with having 200TW tires, I'd probably be tempted to run XP

Like Chris said, find a class that has large numbers and run in it and as you find yourself getting closer to the ones winning that class, then you know you are getting better and faster. BMS runs are more seat time than CCR seat time by far, not even close as far as amount of runs per seconds on course.

You can always compare your times with others whether they're in the same class or not. The results include overall listings by raw time and PAX/RTP. I received a very nice jacket for winning the FS championship in 2012. Of the six events I ran in FS, there was nobody else in the class in five events. I ran on street tires even though it was legal then to run slicks then and there was a street tire index class. I went from 51 of 59 on raw time and 34 of 59 on RTP/PAX in my first event in FS to 34 of 54 on raw time and 20 of 54 on RTP in the last event of the year.

Checking the results, I see that I forgot that I ran in the street tire class for the first two events of 2012, finishing well down in the standings. If I'd stayed in that class, I would have finished second in the championship to Chris Harp, mainly on persistence as the only other person to run six or more events. I thought it was more fun to win a class. YMMV.

ETR gets a lot of runs at BMS because there are less than half the number of entries as CCR. Many of those are in the novice and rookie classes. In terms of venue quality, we should be attracting a lot more entries for the local events. The National events sell out.

Central Carolina Region. It's the SCCA region around Charlotte, NC. They typically run at Zmax dragway.

My son Chris and myself started with ETR back in 2013 and ran STM class with my modified 93 civic, we never ran any novice events. At that time STM was a huge class usually with the highest number of entrants but not much interest the last year or so. We switched to XP in 2015, it has a lot of stiff competition sometimes won or lost by as little as .003. Jim Simmons runs in this class with his Cobra and is also the novice chief, You don't have to run in novice to get the novice help with Jim. It dose not matter which class you decide on just drive at your own level and have fun. Ride with other drivers when you can as you can learn a lot quick.

If my daughter and I both want to drive do we have to compete in different classes?

No, you can run in the same class, one just has to be 1-99 number and the other one just add a 1 in front of the first number. So if you were 15 and your daughter would need to be 115 or your daughter 15 and you 115.

Do we need to register the numbers?

If you pre register for the event, then yes you need to pick a number that isn't already in use in that class. It will let you know if the number has already been picked when you register, or it should any way.
