novice thinking about solo

Hey, everyone!

Our 17 year old is wanting to do solo at Bristol. We're good with signing for him since he's under 18, but do mom or dad need to be present for the event?

Is special insurance needed for autocross (I don't think our regular insurance covers it). If so, any carriers to recommend? Or if you wreck it, are you out of luck?

Thanks for any insight.

Hi Rob. Welcome! The first thing I would suggest is signing him up for the Starting Line school we have this Saturday if you have the time and funds available. It is a great value and a great way to get him started with instruction from national level drivers. https://www.scca.com/events/1990940-sta ... ne-bristol

Mom or dad should attend the event. A minor waiver will have to be signed by both of you. If you can't both be there, you can get it signed and notarized and bring the original with you. I can't find the link right now but Lin Cox is our Waiver Chief and she can probably find it.

I think most of us just take our chances with regard to car insurance at the event. We tend to operate a very safe event but accidents do happen from time to time. Generally any incident is very minor. That said, I think I recently heard about special insurance for autocross events only but I have no information on it.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. We are generally pretty friendly. :D

I haven't purchased insurance through this group yet, but I have gotten reasonable quotes from Lockton Motorsports. I'll probably be getting this next year if we start going to more events.
