I think physics get in the way. Possible tire grip plus weight of 3000+ lbs cars seem to find limits. I know of about a dozen boogieman cars being built for next year. Can’t wait to see if they can really make gains.
now Randy.. you know I was being extremely sarcastic... I know just like you... these big heavy cars will never achieve the pax they currently have.. let alone besting them.

I do think pax is somewhat accurate.. but only in classes that are even close to legitimately programmed. Basing a pax on "WHAT IF" is total BS.

I see pax if done correctly .. to work like weight penalty in road racing.. you would always see a different mix of cars in the top 3%. But, we dont. We always have the same Fn group of cars in the top percentages. Which only means that the numbers can not possibly be adjusted correctly.

I expect index classes at local regions will be worse this year than in the past with Rick's numbers...

All regions have the ability to run events as they choose.
Throw PAX out the window!
Make pax a ZERO factor when it comes to loca events.
Choose a car you enjoy driving and compete within your class.
If you enjoy travel and national events, try to win your class and compare pax math on the big stage.
Pax seems to be more of a regional issue. I've never EVER seen a post from a Lincoln winner or trophy winner debating pax.
It's definitely a regional issue. But, with all due respect, a big part of what makes a top driver a top driver is having a push from their competition to compete. No offense to anyone, but almost everyone in pro would stomp their class by multiple seconds (if they even had anyone to run against). And that's why PAX ends up being important to a lot of people.

SSC next year has the possibility of being great - you have McMark v. Rife, and if I was either of them, I'd make an agreement to both run SSC open because once again, they are doomed in any sort of PAX based class.

You also have a deeply talented class with CAM...and it sounds like a local arms race is about to start, so that will be fun to watch. Several fast guys and wily veterans there.

For the rest of us (Cory, James, Jeff (in ESP trim), me,) we're a class of one.

I don't know what I'm doing yet honestly. I have a STR codrive for national events lined up, but I am not feeling great about putting $5k into this Miata for the possibility of one year of fun in STR. I think I'll do wheels/tires and springs and let it ride.

Torn about open vs pro....

On one hand...
- I like the racecraft of counting 3 runs
- Counting only 3 encourages more testing

On the other...
- I like the idea of riding with people every event and maybe a bit of coaching if anyone will listen to me
- Getting skunked in pro hurts my feelings

I think my plan as of right now is to run CAM locally. I'll run ESP at most national events but am gonna get a set of BFGs to play with at locals and maybe do a couple Drive Autox events if the schedule works. Can't pass up the competition we have in CAM locally and like Chris said only way to get better is to get pushed and we've got a great bunch of pushers. So cmon and jump in the CAM pool with us.

Yeah, tough pill to swallow. Plus getting poor return on the wheels and tires I'm selling has not helped to build my confidence on selling the parts on the used market if the ND2 comes into STR. If it were a two year hold, I was going for it. But only one year....I don't think it's worth taking the chance knowing that Mish is still learning and I have a car lined up nationally.

The thing about PAX is that you absolutely have to do the what ifs....

It will always be behind if you don't anticipate and leave room for development. However, in my case, I don't anticipate a lot of development in SSC. We've already turned the knob both ways. Rick apparently does.

why? some classes already get soft as shit pax..either initially or later in the run.. its only gonna be half a year at best for a car to get ahead of the curve. Then after proof is in the puddin , back it down.
The only point Im making is.. some classes are always at the forefront... no matter how many times they are at the top 3% in event results.. and some classes are always at the mid to bottom.. that is not a proper calculation to a proposed "fair" system.

And since we are discussing it.. heres just one baseline to my questions.

WHo has ever been to a Nat Event where Mike King in HS is running?? show of hands.. Now, how many of those times was he top pax for the event?

Now... how many pax points did HS get for 2019? ( and lets dont say that every other class went faster) we all know better than that.

HS actually got a boost for next year..

The problem is Rick is still using local regions and stuff like that to determine pax and it should only be national events and those events that have no rain. It is a little work but I did it in about 2 weeks and may need a little work but they can be adjusted thru out the year if one or two classes need adjusting.
