Nt555r's for autocross?

Post by Nick2500cd »

I found some nt555rs on Craigslist, but, I'm not sure. I guess they wouldn't be as good as other more autocross tires would they? They say these are drag radials, would I need to be concerned about tire rollover? But then they say 555r and not DR so I'm not sure. Would probably be better than street tires for sure huh! They are asking 275 for the 4 of them, they don't look too used either.. what do you guys think?

If you can find a set of RE71R's or Rival S 1.5's, you'd be much better off.

They're 100 treadwear, and the sidewalls of drag radials are not generally considered to be very suitable for autocross.

I think Lyonel Kent had a set of these on his old Civic many years ago. Tires have changed a lot since then but if it is the same tire, I was impressed. The grip was better than most any other street tire of the time and the sidewalls didn't seem to have any issue.

That said, the only place these tires would be legal to run are in SP, Prepared, or Mod categories. That's a tall order for a stock Civic.
