Yeah, that's why I said e30. I didn't know e36s were at that price-point.

Found several E36 cars close enough that I could stretch the budget to buy it. Just wouldn't be able to go through the suspension and stuff right away. Still have to budget replacing the cooling system however.

I think I'm looking for an E36 though, so thanks.

Something like this I'm thinking.

^That car screams "run away!" to me. 5% tint and a-pillar gauges? Yikes.

e36s are actually cheaper than e30s nowadays, for those who were wondering. And yes, much better performance...better rear suspension, 24V vs. 12V, VANOS. E30s are starting to appreciate from what I've seen.

Hmm, that seems cheap to me. However, if it is decent, it could be a good buy. Keep in mind, E36s have their share of gremlins.

You can probably get a decent stockish E36 for that money, I'd be hesitant about any car with signs (A pillar guages) that suggested it was a project car.

Obviously I'd say 88-91 CRX/Civic si or Miata... seeing how those aren't options for you... if you can find an E36 in good shape for a good price then I'd go for it. I know my next street car build will probably be an E30 or E36.

Maintenance and reliability on a Civic/CRX or Miata is pretty outmatched though... and when something does crap out on you it's pretty cheap.
