Well, if that becomes the default tire ...looks like our pax is going way down over the next few years...

I really think the 225's need an 8" rim .. the 7 1/2 is maybe pinching them a tiny bit too much ... ????
Need an 8" to do what?
tread width is 8 1/2" ... from what I've picked up in the past couple of yrs .. these "magic" street tires we have now .. tend to need rims that are close to equal width as the tread width .. so they "should" probable do better on 8" or 9" as opposed to what we normally run i.e. 7" or 7 1/2"

keep in mind that this is nothing more than "conventional" wisdom not from my own testing

It doesn't need to work "optimally". It just needs to go faster than a 195 Toyo.

Widthwise 7.5" wheel to 195 tire is the same as 9" wheel to 225 tire. Since the 7.5 is too narrow for 225, you have to run higher pressures to retain any sort of steering feel for autocross and even keep the tire from de-beading.

Even running the Toyo at 35 psi will be a lot slower than at 25 psi.

I'm starting to think that Jason Frank's win at Spring Nationals was just an outlier.

But I also want to see this play out in practice , since I already have the tires.
