What do you think they could get to in weight and power?thrdeye wrote:
Based on pro results, I have to say I think an 06-07 2.5L WRX could get competitive in STX. Joey's had no power mods (well a catback, but that's negligible), a less than optimal suspension, and a stock alignment. I think we could have made up 2.5 seconds on that course with a prepped car.

Re: 6/23 Bristol Epilogue
Probably 2900 on weight if you did EVERYTHING to cut weight (brakes, seats, etc.)
Power with an STX legal tune would be really good. The peak would not be impressive, but the 2.5L makes good torque down low, and the peak doesn't really matter that much, once you get a WRX turning correctly, you can stay in the gas. When you have that, and add some exhaust and tune to get rid of the lag, it would be a pretty potent car. I'd think you could get at least 230 at the wheels on a good tune, though.
I'm actually thinking dirty thoughts here.
edit: I looked up the 06/07 curb weight. For some reason, heavier than the earlier generations so I'm not sure on the 2900 number. My bugeye was 3005# with stock seats and brakes.

Re: 6/23 Bristol Epilogue
A couple of people have posted dynos on nasioc getting around 240-250 whp and right at 300lb ft. I think that was on an 08 (either 08 or 09 had a better turbo). Like Chris said the weight should be able to get close to 2900 maybe slightly higher.

Re: 6/23 Bristol Epilogue
Those are some good numbers, lots more tq than the rx8 and similar weight. It could definitely be a STX contender on a national level.

Looked at the nationals results for stx and out of 49 cars only 7 subies and best subie was 4.5 seconds off of first in 15 or 16 place.

I was wondering where you'd run on the site.. that's where I was parked last weekend.
Very nice looking course and looked like it was a blast. I'm jealous that you guys have so many options.

The winning BMW was also driven by someone named Heicotter, which is a bit of an outlier He beat the winning STU M3 time on one of the two courses, also driven by an outlier heh.

Re: 6/23 Bristol Epilogue
People didn't quit running the 2.0 cars because they weren't competitive. I'd expect a top 2.5 car to compete for the win. The BMW/RX8/etc folks are scared of these cars. People just don't build them for whatever reason.

I've found a couple of good 06-07 ones on autotrader, but I want to see how D Street goes next year.
As it sits, I could sell the 11, buy an 06, and make almost enough money for the suspension and power.

ST cars are a lot of fun. I could live with one as a daily, if it had AC and a radio.

Judging from what I have seen from McCance, you better have plenty of transmissions.

Re: 6/23 Bristol Epilogue
Yeah, he makes about 400 TQ though since he's in ESP. He also launches with no regard to preservation of the tranny since he can swap and rebuild them pretty well.
If you launch at about 4500 and do it correctly, you can still cut 1.8's and be easy with the trans.

Yeah, My cousin't 02 went thru 2 transmissions early on. His car is barely an 02 now with allot of 05 STI parts and a stroker motor.MARKP wrote:Judging from what I have seen from McCance, you better have plenty of transmissions.
