Hankook RS3 Version 2

Post by disneyd »

I'm pretty out of the loop, but have you guys seen this?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... rsion+2%29
Beginning with 2014 production (DOT ending in "14"), Hankook Tire introduced a new updated tread compound for Ventus R-S3 tires. In order to help identify them, we've nicknamed Ventus R-S3 tires produced after the beginning of 2014 as "Version 2" (even though it will not be branded on the tire's sidewall, nor printed on its label).

The new updated Racing Carbonblack Silica Compound (RCSC) technology allows the Ventus R-S3 (Version 2) to retain its 200 Treadwear UTQG rating, as well as reach favorable operating temperatures quicker produce more grip in damp/wet conditions.

I ran them in Chatty Sundy on the NC.. and I never exceeded the tire during my one run... un like the runs on the BFG's and the STS car. ..where, every corner was a flurry of "dammitts-to-Hells"

so JB, assuming there isn't a R2R (and even if there is, it somehow stays off the exclusion list … because SCCA hate of the R1R), is the R-S3 the STS tire of choice ?

Walter.. I have no clue. My tire of choice will be STR. wait.. that's a class.. still. Ill not run my STS car on Shit tires.. it suckes ALL the fun out of the car/class! Id imagine STS/STC/ and prolly STF will die soon. Thanks SCCA/BOD/STAC... and anyone else that contributed to the Toyo Hatred.

Brian Burdette was running the Kook's on his SR Mustang at Blytheville. He was fourth in class and the fastest Mustang. He said they took some getting used to, but obviously he was able to make them work. Since the ZII Star Spec won't be available for a while, I'll probably try the Kook's when my current tires are gone. That may be fairly soon as they're down to the wear bars now.

I wonder if the 195 will run wide.
I'm not sure how I feel about 225s on my 7.5s with my current HP.

I want to try 2. I'm debating 195 vs 225.

Unless they have updated it, the general feeling was that the Hankook has a softer sidewall than most other ST tires. So, I'd be careful going too wide.

Hollis won on HanYo in 2010 and I think the 225 was the only size.

We drove John's v1 225's that same year and they felt sharper than the Toyos.
