Wilmington Report

Post by MARKP »

This place has GRIP! I may have a new favorite national site.

Nice! What about for ST tires?

I plan on making the NT up there, already have plans the weekend of the Pro solo.

Curt and Kristo and I ran up there last year.

It is a great site. There was a long slalom that made me feel like Senna. I felt like the car probably should have barrel rolled, caught fire, and exploded, but I was able to stay in the throttle.

I can't dot he Pro because of work, but the tour is a must.

google maps says roughly 4 1/2 hrs from Knoxville... is that about right?

I plan on hitting either the tour or pro up there... depends on the new job and how busy things are though.

I need concrete to remember what that's like for nats.

Marcus, they will let you run street tires here. :-)

Course drives a lot better than I expected. The slalom is wicked fast and there are a lot of high speed spins at the finish.

I'm having a hard time getting the fast runs. I don't think I'm quite used to the speeds we are running.

Looks like Laura Campbell won the shootout over Darrin. I saw that Jed did really really well yesterday. I can't see the actual shootout results though :(

Jed was smoking today, until he spun running against Laura. Darrin was faster today and it bit him in the last round, having to match the fast time.

I think we figured out some more stuff on the car for concrete. It was hooked up on the knockout runs.

For anyone wanting a taste of a Champ Tour and Pro Solo combined, the format is pretty cool. The site is the best chunk of pavement I have been on. Peru and Topeka grip without the bumps. It was awesome.

I think Toledo edges it out slightly but would take Wilmington over Toledo because it is so darn close.

I got the same reports from the SCR guys there. I heard the knockout stuff was a little confusing to allot of people...

I'm going to try to make the champ tour up there.

Live results sucked ... annoying to watch.

I'm not a fan of the Math Tour format.

A large part of it is we only get a single course to figure out, but some of it is that they've made so many small changes that hardly anyone seems to know what is going on.

yes, I heard that there was some people that made the shootout on day #1 that didn't bother to stay for the shootout.

From the sound of it ( not that live audio was working ), the shootout didn't even start until late? How late was the even going on ?

All the high HP cars including Stranos vette and my GT500 were dumping the clutch about 4500 rpms and getting about 2 turns of wheel spin and then it hooked up and the chase was on. I have never been able to put down power out of elements with out some wheel spin, but there you could drop the hammer and there was no wheel spin. The sweeper coming to the finish we were carrying 56-62 mph the entire way around the sweeper and the car stuck. I wish we had found on Saturday what we found on Sunday with the set up on the car. It would have made about 1-2 seconds on each run. Looking forward to going back to this lot, it is unreal the amount of grip that is there. Etr needs a big group going to the early August tour there and I may even take the grill for some steaks and taters for our dining after the runs.
