FP if I remember correctly. What do you mean by "modified"? I think that car started out with 76hp or so. Look forward to seeing it. I had something similar for a few years but never put real good tires on it. Mine had big jugs, aggressive cam, and other goodies. I think it put out around 140 hp, but that was just the seat of pants est. Still not much for a 2,100 lb car.

You need to detail the modifications to your car. I'm also assuming that it's a 4 cylinder 914. If the modifications are minimal, mainly shocks and one sway bar, then on R-comps you would run CSR, in 2014 anyway. With more extensive suspension modifications, it would be DSP, then DP then... R-comps excludes you from any street tire class.

The rules, which are somewhat like a software manual, i.e. a reference for someone already skilled, are here:http://www.scca.com/assets/2014%20Solo% ... 0links.pdf

whatever classes allow for a bored over engine, as the OP stated above. you could always run STM if you're really unsure. the classing can get pretty murky at times.

Changing the engine displacement puts you in Modified Class, DM or EM. If the car with driver weighs more than 1700 lbs, it's EM. But DM can't weigh less than 1380 lbs, with some adjustments depending on certain details.

He can't run STM on R-comps.

R-comps don't go in STM.

If that was 43 hp stock from a 1.6l then it was not the type 4 VW that came in the 914-4's Porsche 914's never came with a 1.6. 1970 was a 1.7l with 79hp. stock.

Sounds like your car is legal for SM2 or DM.

He means SSM (SM2 was changed to SSM), and after a half hour with the @##$$%%&( rulebook, I agree with Mark.

SSM has a much better PAX index (SSM 0.882 , DM 0.920) . Neither class has much participation lately, especially DM.

Thanks. I was in a hurry and couldn't remember the correct class.

Yes it is a 1.7 sorry, but 43 was what we put down on a dyno then we got it up to 110 hp to the ground and no suspension work just transmission work for shifting linkage and the tires are miata scca spec

Sounds like a good ax car. Did you convert to a side shifter? Mine even after the conversion was (not affectionately) called a mystery shifter.

If you had swapped the whole engine for a 2.0 from a later model, you might have been eligible for Street Prepared class, depending on what else you did to the motor. But if the crankcase is still from the original 1.7 motor, it's likely SSM. Or at least that's my reading of the less than crystal clear Solo rules ( "It was clear as mud, but it cover the ground. And the confusion made the brain go 'round." as the song lyric goes).
