350Z reclassed to STU Clutch Modification Question

Post by chadZilla »

We found out last week that the 350z was reclassed to STU. Other than having to buy a new wheel setup (annoying), I think we are ok, but I have a question.

The rules state no lightened flywheels allowed in STU. I am one of many owners and am not sure if there was any work done to it. It is doubtful that the clutch was redone considering it only has 62K, but is there an easy way to figure out if it has a lightened flywheel. I know one way was to rev it with another 350 stock clutch and compare the gain/drop in RPM's. Any other suggestions? I want to be sure we are within spec more than anything. and I guess if by some chance it does, are we restricted to STM and BSP only?

Thanks!

Find Scott Dobler or Brian Flanagan at the Jetport. They know these cars well.

Anyway, there are a lot of people that have bought their car used and/or have had someone else do work on the car. There are probably some cars out there that have some not by the book mods or repairs that are unknown to the owner. If there isn't any reason to suspect that the car has aftermarket parts, I wouldn't put much thought into it.

I am with Steve on this one. Likely a non-issue.

yeah - until you start winning contingencies at nat tours/pro solo's nobody is gonna care enough to make a scene over a flywheel.

PUT THOSE DAMN TOW-HOOKS ON SONNY!!!

Why do you have to change your current wheel setup? Do you just want to go wider? Which is always better!!!!

Thanks! I appreciate all the input!
I didn't think it would be a big deal now, but its just something i'd like to know regardless, and make me feel better knowing i am not out of spec.

As far as tires, yes I was thinking wider. I am gonna run the ones i have for now. I am happy and having fun, but can definitely tell that more tire would help. And why not, its just money!

Again, thank you! See you in Chatt.

I don't know if you've started shopping yet, but I highly recommend BFGoodrich Rivals. You could go up to a 285 in STU.

So I did a comparison and my rev speed match a stock clutch and no where near one with a lightened flywheel. phew. STU here we come.
Thanks again so much for all the help!
