Thanks. ..my biggest concern will be leaving my house at 6:30am in below freezing Temps with my RS3'S as my daily driver tires. ..traveling in the dark at least 10 miles on untreated hills and back roads just to get to Pellisippi parkway not gonna happen . Morning temperature for those who are traveling any distance to get there will be a bitch.

FEB 28/March 1st events

Post by disneyd »

The weather guys are usually pretty close on temperatures. Ignoring precipitation, if the high is 42 and the low 30 (the current forecast I'm looking at) then there'll be no grip with race or "street" tires, especially at Pelli.

So my .02 is this weekend will be a waste of time unless the predicted temps go way up.

Now, if ya'll just want to get out and slide around, that's a different story.

Yea the weather may be a little cool for race tires but after 4 or 5 runs they will get some heat in them, for the ones going to national events in the next 2-3 weeks to benefit from driving time especially if changes to the car were made during the summer and you are trying to see how the car reacts to those changes. It is better to have a little seat time so that you don't have to figure out the car during your first 3 runs at cecil on day one and could have gone faster with some seat time, now if it is wet yea race tires and wet won't help. I will look at the weather in the morning and make a determination along with the other key etr core members.

I'm getting elderly and much less inclined to play in the cold and wet. I vote for rescheduling.

I definitely need seat time but it doesn't seem like I'll really be able to get a good feel for any changes to the car if it's really cold and/or wet. I have new tires to try out and figure out the best working pressure/temperature. I don't think that will really be a possibility this weekend. That being said, if we end up having the event, I'll be there whether I run or not.

Unless conditions change, I'll run on my daily drive Conti's. That way I should be able to tell if the setup is wildly off and knock some rust off the driver. I can squeeze the Dunlops in the car, but I don't feel much like changing tires at the event.

At 40F, you'll want to drop your normal cold tire pressure by at least 5%.

So what time are we realistically trying to start?

If we do this some will not show at least delay the start so those who come from a distance will have some extra time.

Cold and rain/snow or what ever.......Does any one know how to do the set up? And make it work? Not being a mean ass, but real life driving does have an effect on how we run the course. Rain/slow...Snow/a bit slower. and cold tires do not get warm. same with the surface. Meaning any testing on 200 extreme warm weather tires is sorta like why try at this time. They have a temp factor that they need to be driven on,not......... Crap I'm done on this point.

this … plus my car's in the shop getting work done that I can't do here at home … no press, no shop air, and sub-zero temps … won't be ready by this weekend

Couple of places are now showing a high of 40 deg on Sat. :-( If there is any wind at all that is gonna be miserable.

High of 50 deg on Sunday, but 30%-50% chance of snow/precip, depending upon where you look.

I am pretty sure I'm out for Saturday unless we get a lot closer to 50 deg, but would not want to give up the points for Sunday. I think we ought to punt on both events. We have 68 registered for points #1, whereas our first event is typically 100 drivers or more.

IMHO, of course.
