SA2015 Helmet, where can we buy on the cheap?

Post by 90civichb »

Since it seems we have to use a SA2015 helmet, where is the cheapest place to buy one? I think a closed faced would be more appropriate since I plan to eventually (sometime this year) do an HPDE event and a full face, I believe, is required.

How old is your helmet? 2005 is still good for this year I thought

who told you that you had to have a '15 helmet ?

not only is a '10 still perfectly acceptable, but so are the '05 AND the '00 good for the upcoming season

Also, for autocross the M helmet is fine. SA is nice but not required.

Current and 2 previous standards are good till 2020 helmets come out.

Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on course:
All helmets meeting the latest or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA2015, SA2010, SAH2010, SA2005, SA2000, M2015, M2010, M2005, M2000, K2015, K2010, K2005, K98)

Current and 2 previous would be 2015, 2010, and 2005 right? Doesn't that mean that 2000's are no good this year?

read the SCCA rule book ... for the upcoming season they have added the SA/M 2000

this is different from normal ... who knows why they've added the 2000, but they did

usually it is, as you pointed out the 2 previous Snell Foundations standards

I think there was a delay on the 2015 certification.

The 2016 rules say that M2000, SA2000 and K98 helmets will be legal in 2016, but not in 2017.

SPS/Solotime is where I bought my SA2015. Not a great selection of the SA2015 yet since the standard just was approved in Q4, thus the delay in implementing the usual sunset for the 2000 helmets. I bought mine since the old one had served me well for 7 seasons of car and kart racing and autoxing in the kart. And it was stinky. I also bought a new helmet for my youngest daughter (in pink) and got it directly from RaceQuip. Same model as mine just smaller and a different color. $220 each and I get to use mine next weekend at Barber.

I don't know ... this is the first time, that I can remember, that they've gone this far back ... I would have been sorta expecting them to extend the 2005, because of the availability problems of the 2015 ... but 2000 ????? that shocked me
