Paul,
Can you add to the Tech Rules section on MSR the following?
"If your battery is not in the stock location and is a normal lead acid battery it must be in a enclosed battery box such as one for a marine battery."
Or words to that effect.
Thanks,
Paul

if you're going to enforce this, your probably should copy and paste from the rule book
“The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.”

We have been enforcing this Walter. I doubt Paul wants to paste the entire 3 pages of Safety Inspection requirements. Here is the applicable section:

All batteries (on-board power supplies) shall be attached securely to
the frame or chassis structure, independent of any container or cover
that may be present. Any wet-cell battery moved from the manufacturer’s
original location shall be in a non-conductive, marine-type container
or equivalent and the “hot” terminal shall be insulated. NOTE:
This will allow the use of gel cell or dry cell (AGM) batteries without a
non-conductive, marine-type container where applicable.

I don't think my one sentence summary is significantly different than what is posted above for most people other than you can substitute wet-cell for lead acid.

I always kind of freak out when I read this, then I catch the wet cell part.

Paul,
Do people need to register for this first event to ensure they keep their numbers all season like we used to do?
Thanks,
Paul

Paul...this was from 2015 season that Chris posted
Permanent/Reserved Numbers
We are now setup to pull from a number pool. If the number has been chosen, it is gone for the year. Please register for the first event (or the T&T) to get the number you want. This may cause some issues down the road when cars start carrying multiple codrivers, but we'll have to deal with those at the trailer. We almost ran out of numbers in STM last year, so reserved numbers should help.
Since there are NO PENALTIES for pre-registering and canceling before the event or even a NO SHOW. I would suggest everyone to pre-register and lock your number in at the first event to be safe. As an example Jim & Ariel are switching numbers this year. Jim is running 106 and Ariel will run the number 6. When Jim pre-registered for event #1... MSR assigned him the #6 he had last year. We fixed it to 106 and after event #1 is in the books that should be a permanent change for both of them the rest of the season.
