Any interest in here?

Post by MARKP »

As most of you know, we don't have a RallyX program right now. We have been unable to get a site and it appears that we don't have anyone interested in heading up the program. I'm soliciting for someone that wants to try and get this program back on track. Here's what we need:

Someone who is organized and can regularly attend the board meetings and communicate the status of the program. You will need to explore site options and get contact information for site owners (at a minimum). You should be able to be the contact for the site owners to secure contracts and obtain insurance through SCCA. You will need to be able to organize an event and be sure it runs as smoothly as possible. I probably don't have to say this but, obviously, you will need to be an ETR member and you need to have an interest in getting RallyX going again in ETR. I can get you in contact with RallyX people from other regions that should be able to help you with the details and how they run their programs.

Please feel free to post up or PM me if you have any questions on this.

Thanks!

There are some who are able to assist a Rally Chair with getting the events to happen, but not able to do it all or have the time to hunt down an event site.

We're still looking for possible sites up here in the tri-cites region for a Rally X event(s). I hope to nail down a few locations before spring here in Mountain City.

How much level acreage is needed for the course and paddock/parking/spectator area?

I think there is plenty of interest still for the program, unfortunately most of it doesnt come to this forum. I wish that i had the time to devote to this cause, but im already suffering from too many irons in the fire, and im a bit out of place being so far north of most of you. If someone revives rallyx, ill definitely show up and will still bring friends!

Matt, where is the interest at? I'm trying to get something going up here in upper E. Tenn. But it seems like I'm falling on deaf ears.

Ben,
This is also in reply to the message you sent me.
I've been speaking with the local Chamber of Commerce here in Johnson County and I think we may be able to use the Chamber Park for some Rally Xing this year. If you guys can approve the location and terrain and we can get some preliminary plans going, then I can go to the Chamber and reserve the park for this or at least put in a submission for use. It will have to be done under Racing Dreamz hosting the SCCA Rally X if that's alright with you guys.
I realize it's a ways up here but Johnson County needs events like this and hopefully we can attract some local participants and members for future events.
Do you know where the Chamber Park is? It's across the state prison on Hwy 67 right before you get to Mountain City, about 2-3 miles out. If interested, let me know so we can get together and get some events planned. Feel free to give me a call at (removed the number for public) anytime.
Thanks
Ben

While we appreciate your interest in providing a site to run a rallycross there are some concerns. It is extremely unusual for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) to run under someone else’s banner. The SCCA really doesn’t permit local regions to do this. In order to maintain the integrity of the SCCA name, we would need to deal directly with the site owners and would need to provide our own sanction and insurance and conduct the event. The East TN Region has, in years past, put on events in the Tri-Cities area in conjunction with festivals such as Spring Fest and Fun Fest. We have held charity events around Tri-Cities with the proceeds going to various well known children and adult charities. In all these events, we have not had to broker the deal with the city councils, school councils, or the event sites with a third party. We appreciate your enthusiasm but we are bound by the rules from our national office.

If, as I have said before, you have a facility with 10 to 20 acres we could revisit the possibility of renting it for an event. We tend to not walk on property unless we have the direct consent from the owner. We don’t want to be accused of trespassing or, worse, stumble upon someone who would rather take a shot at or release their dog on one of our members. Of course, we have budgets that we have to maintain and our rallycross program is on an extremely tight one at this time. Transporting equipment and personnel to operate the events and sanction and insurance fees all add up when we talk about travelling to the Tri-Cities area. That’s not to say we couldn’t hold an event there but the site cost would have to be quite small in order to make the event profitable. Our club does like to give back to the community but in the end, we still have to make a profit on our events in order to continue to operate as a club.

The interest is on facebook. Mostly around knoxville. As for tricities, i have no clue. Ill travel to a good rallycross and i have a friend who will also travel. It sounds like youre headed in the right direction...you just need a visit from someone SCCA. Like me, youre a bit out of pocket.

I guess my wording was wrong on this. Racing Dreamz was inviting the Rally X program to an event that was being hosted by us. I do apologize for the bad wording. RD will be reserving the Chamber Park with the approval of the Chamber of Commerce, if we can all come to terms on this matter.

But, if Mtn City is too far and the cost to great to ETR, we totally understand.

Has anyone ever considered the giant gravel parking lots beside/behind Bristol Dragway? I don't know if they're BMS owned or private, but they're definitely big enough to rallycross in, and they're empty nearly all the time.
