NEED A CHEVY VIN DECODED

Post by oldmuscle69 »

I have a 1976/77 Caprice 2 DR, 30k miles on it,red on red kinda like maroon red (I will have photos of this one soon). I have not touched the car yet,but have seen photos. Great looking car (near mint) It is sitting on rally wheels but the original wheels and tires come with. I need some of our Chevy Aholics to help me get a 13 digit VIN number decoded and it is 1N47L7S153586. I hope to have a look at the plate under the hood this weekend. The car just makes me think of six people cruising and doing a number while the FM is blaring. The A/C works. So if anyone can decode this one thanks.

The last 6 numbers are how many were made so far that year.
Your welcome.

I'm not sure when they went to 17 digits, but I've owned 4 Chevy's from 1972-80 and all had 13 digit vin's

Looks like they got you taken care of. I have a book that breaks down the option code sticker, but that predates the information being on the internet. If you need need help with that, let me know and I'll dig out the book.

Thanks for all of your help,I was a bit miffed as to why the decoder did no know of the 13 digit VIN numbers. Rife and the rest of you guys rock for the response. Cant wait to see it, just wondering if 8 track,AM/FM or what ever. 170 HP, who cares, it's a cruiser.

Still waiting to get the keys to the car, I know it will be a hoot to drive around in. It seats six but I know ten will fit for a short trip.
