Doesn't he work for a Chevy dealer or some place that does a lot of 'Vette work?

Anyone have contact info for him? Think he'd entertain questions from a fellow autoxer?

I just bought a 2008 C6 Z06 this summer with intent to run in AS next year. The biggest issue with the cars is in the heads. General consensus is you probably need to be checking the valves every 5-10k miles as far as I can tell. The heads weren't all machined with things exactly lined up and that causes some problems. Some people have had the heads re-machined to correct the alignment. I'm not sure if that is legal in Street class or not as a repair. That said, heads on these things are not the most expensive thing in the world, especially if you do all of the labor except machining yourself. When mine goes down for it's snow rest I'm guessing there is a good chance it will wind up getting new heads or something.

As compared to the GS, well, it really drives differently. The GS gearing is much friendlier on the street and most likely for AX as well. The Z06 just felt like a different league of performance though and it put a bigger smile on me than anything I've driven in a long time. Also working cruise control with a nice quiet and soft ride really make it feasible to travel further to events.

John, any chance you'll be at the event Sunday? I'd love to chat with you about it and check it out if you bring it.

I'll be at the event on Sunday, but I'll be running in STR, probably in my miata. Gotta get points event #7 for STR finished up.

Depending on the weather I may bring the vette out to the #11 event. It still has oem tires on it and they are extremely dangerous in the wet below 70-75F. So if that event is dry and not too cold I'll have it there to give it a shake down. I have it mostly prepped besides wheels and tires, which I'm waiting until spring to get.

Well, I'm officially looking for an '09-'13 Z06 if anyone knows of a good one for sale.

I'm leaning towards the '09 end of the spectrum due to cost.

Does anyone know what size RE71r's or Rivals people are running on the stock rims? Neither make the factory rear size, which is a 325/30-19.

I think everyone is running the 335 rear/315 front rivals.

Don't they make brass valve guides that people are dropping in for SSR/AS which takes care of the issue? Email Sam Strano if you get a chance, Dave.

IMO if the guides are relatively cheap, fix the issue, and don't offer a performance advantage, no one is gonna protest you over it even if they aren't legal strictly speaking... fix it for good and move on with life, I'm not gonna throw papers at you if you win pro

John, sorry I didn't make it to Adesa, but thanks for the offer!

Cathers, yeah, Sam has a fix that is AS legal, so I'll do that soon. In the mean time, the dealer I bought it from threw in 5 more years of powertrain warranty with a $50 deductible, so I have a decent safety net.

Kind of off topic, but C6 related and yall will find it funny: I was fighting the car all day at Adesa. It was doing weird crap and really pissing me off. After the 4th run, I had remembered how to Autocross again and settled down enough to realize that the car was intervening heavily with my inputs. Well come to find out my dumb a$$ had the "Traction Control Off" selected, but that still leaves "Active Handling" enabled... I felt like such an idiot after I got home! My fastest time was a 45.8, but who knows how much lower it could have been if the car wasn't "applying individual brakes and reducing throttle input." Now I know to hold the button down for 5 seconds to turn both systems off. FML

"Active handling takes input from several sensors in the vehicle. It pays attention to wheel spin, rpm, throttle input, brake input and yaw (departure angle of the nose of the vehicle from straight.) The car will take what it believes to be appropriate actions including applying individual brakes and reducing throttle input."

The c6 is backwards to the c5...

In mine, you touch the button once A's everything is off... Hold it down and competitive driving mode is set.

The c6 its press twice to get everything off.

That's bit me before

Got a 2011 in Supersonic Blue from a place in Charlotte (man there are a lot of Z06's there)

The ZR1 front splitter and skirts are going to have to go. I don't think the cones will be friendly to them.
