Trailer wiring

Post by jcox07 »

Got the ambulance hitch on and 7 prong plug hooked up all works but when I hit the brakes in the ambulance the back up beeper starts beeping when unhooked from trailer no backup beeper. I know something is not right but everything works except for backup beeper beeping while going forward or sitting still. Anyone got any ideas......

Back feeding or crossed wire? I have a 7-way emulator plug to verify the plug on the truck is correct. Let me know if you want to borrow it.

Do you have any kind of wiring schematic for the rig? Backup lights should be separate from the brake light circuit. Any chance a bulb is installed wrong? That has happened when the brake, turning signal and running lights all share a circuit. I've heard some vehicles need an isolator circuit added to keep any back feeding electricity.

Ditto what Ted said. I don't think this is your problem but I have seen where an incorrect bulb was installed and caused a short that allowed another circuit to back feed.

The center pin is the back up lamp circuit.
You have brake light voltage feeding into the back up lights. Which will activate the back up alarm. Check for a strand of wire touching the other terminal.
