Solo Storm tablet

Post by Challenger »

I'm looking for a cheap tablet to run Solo Storm with. Any suggestions or things to avoid? My current tablet is a Dell running windows so it won't work. So I'm just looking for something bare bones that will perform with the software, gps and OBD interfaces but won't break the bank since that's all it will probably be used for.

I think Chris Harp got one like you are wanting, hopefully he can chime in on the one he got. I have the Samsung 8.4 pro and it is a good one. Some more costly than that and some cheaper also.

I got a refurb Google Nexus 7 2013 model and it's really great. More powerful and faster than most newer tablets.

That said, I do miss the micro SD card slot that JY's has. It is very useful to pop my GoPro card into and watch the runs. I don't like doing the video with the tablet like JY because it's a crappy angle (for me) to get any good info from.

I've got a small external card reader for my tablet to look at trail cam pics out in the field, it works pretty good.

I have an older wifi only galaxy tab 3 that you can get on Amazon for 90-130 bucks, or the newer versions for under 200.
Has worked great for a few years now. Talks to my qstarz gps, and go pro hero 3 just fine.
That's on option

Have any of you all tried Harry's Lap Timer with a tablet yet?

It ran pretty flawlessly on my older Galaxy S5 back in 2015ish..... 2gb of ram, 2.5ghz quad-core Krait. IIRC the tablet JY bought at Dixie back in 2014 had similar specs. I think SoloStorm is more demanding than Harry's LapTimer actually.

Oh that's interesting. You can find cheap tablets on CL all the time. I was going to just use my RAM static mount and get their table X-grip to hold it. I think that would be easy button and work with all my other RAM accessories.
