If anyone is interested will be doing a cruise on Monday 8/21 approx. departure time 11:30AM Meet up in Maryville TN and Seymour TN ride through Townsend and Wears Valley having lunch at Elvira's Café then to The Preserve at Wears Valley at 1750 feet and a great view (hopefully less people) to watch the Eclipse. Following a ride to the Island in Pigeon Forge.

Hmm, I was planning on driving out to Sweetwater which has about the max length of the total eclipse at 2 min and 38 sec. That's where I could get just as the eclipse starts if I leave work at 11:30. Pigeon Forge won't quite get totality, so a bit of a drive will allow the complete eclipse experience.

At Sweetwater the partial eclipse starts at 1:04 pm, totality starts at 2:33 pm and ends at 2:36. End of the partial eclipse is 3:58 pm.

My bogey, assuming the weather cooperates, is the Dinner Bell truck stop. Second choice will be to stay on I-40 toward Crossville to Exit 347 to US-27 South to Spring Hill. Third choice is to go south instead, to White Plains, SC.

I'd love some company!

Weather permitting of course

Sweetwater is expecting huge traffic. There are already signs up about it. I'm planning on staying near Farragut. Within a few miles of my house, we should get about 2 minutes of totality. You are welcome to join. Send me a PM if you want to. Chances are the place I am thinking of will get busy, though.

Sweetwater will be very busy…. Not too many people even know about the Preserve…. Hopefully my hunch is right.

Ill be taking a late lunch and go home and sit in the back yard with most of my kids..

L.C. is almost as centered as S.W. and Ill not sweat any traffic!

I will be sitting at work or in the garage working on the car for nationals and if you can't make the viewing, go into a room with no windows and turn the light on and look up at the light and then turn off the light for 2 minutes and then back on and boom you got the same thing......lol

I'll see how the traffic is when I'm driving. May stop at LC, but I want the full 2 1/2 minutes of totality. Much will depend on cloud cover. But I won't settle for not seeing a total eclipse. I still remember 1979 when I only had around 80% totality. It got darker, but not dark and we couldn't look at the sun at all. 96% here and that's not enough for me. YMMV.

Yeah, sweating bullets. The forecast keeps waffling back and forth. Dana and I will probably be at her daughter's place in Friendsville. 2 minutes of totality and the added comfort for Dana of a bathroom. Having to stand in line to hit a port-o-john in Sweetwater might not end well. She don't wanna risk it for 38 seconds more totality down there.

That's why I have a few contingency plans, including heading south to Greenville instead of LC/SW. We shall see.

I'll be at the best place. Work at 75/40 split. Plan on going out several times or just staying out. I think a few places for your parking will be ok if ya want to join in.

I'm heading to Lenoir City, I guess. No clouds forecast! Maybe farther south, depending on the traffic after lunch but I expect it'll get pretty busy. Any suggestions?

The dam overlook might be good. But, it might be busy.
