That's why no kid of mine will get a Carrera GT or Countach or an Ariel Atom as a first car!

I once had someone ask me if the '93 Rx7 their 16 year old son wanted as a first car would be a good choice...

The price tag has nothing to do with it, hypothetical kid of mine.

I'm pretty sure I would have dropped something obscure (TVR or Noble) and put Corvette in the top 10.

I was trying to think of other notable "misses".

STi/EVO. Overconfidence due to the AWD + a ton of power = blammo.

List does not contain an MR2 Turbo, list is invalid. Snap oversteer is real. In hindsight, my parents were nuts for that one even though the car was pretty cheap...but we both survived (car and me). I credit being a square and autocross for not having ended up upside-down on a road somewhere.

I still remember the time I was 16, driving my 1996 Camaro V6 A4 in the rain for the first time, and ended up facing the wrong direction on Middlebrook Pike trying to turn onto it from Old Cedar Bluff Road. 200hp was way too much for me back then.

I like how literally one of those cars would ever be conceivably owned by a normal middle class kid. And of course it's the one known best for crowd control.

I looped a 1980 Camaro trying to stop for a yellow light in my first rain drive. Modern brakes are nice. :)

I did the same thing first time I had my old NA Miata out in the rain (I did a complete 360 in an exit lane trying to get slowed down from interstate speeds). Going from ABS to no ABS is a real kick in the pants.

ABS / traction control / stability nannies - pffft...

The one autocross run I took in Jy's car I thought I'd broken it (then I learned about "ice mode")...
