Harness and harness bar

Post by danegrey »

I have a question, I drive the black cherry 370Z, and I made the last autocross...
I am also going to do Track Night at Road Atlanta later this month.

My question concerns how a racing harness should be attached to the harness bar?
Is there any rules as how many times it has to be thru the harness clip.

thanks for the help

Grassroots Motorsports had a pretty good article about this subject. I have no clue if Track Night in America would have any different requirements.

Supplementing Mark's link, Schroth also has some general instructions in a "race harness installation guide" PDF

https://www.schroth.com/en/segments/rac ... tions.html

The big thing to pay attention to is the mounting angle for the shoulders so as to avoid spinal compression.

I *think* if done right a harness bar and harness should pass tech at a TNIA as long as it's a 5+ point harness (4pt are generally frowned upon because no submarine protection). Be aware you may catch flak from some for running a harness without a roll hoop. The actual added risk factor there is *highly* debated and the subject of a lot of bad armchair engineering and sweeping generalizations, so it will depend on the organization....but something to watch out for in tech requirements if you decide to do more events with other track day providers/clubs.

well that will make it interesting, the driver seat is 5 point the passenger is 4 point...
but the seatbelts were never taken out of the car, so I guess I will live and learn...

all thanks for the help

Another small piece with shoulder harnesses and a harness bar, guide clamps:

They'll help with lateral movement of your shoulder harnesses. I've unfortunately noticed bad spacing on shoulder straps on bars in some cars I've riden in...... including my own!
