As the title says. I am in the mood for a change and a gay (happy) roadster that I could auto-x and spec race would be cool.
Which models are most desirable? Thanks.

I borrowed a friend's Miata (with most of the common STS mod's). I was reminded of what a fun car it is to drive, but I resisted the urge to start shopping for one. If only Mazda had made a hard-top version.

This might be weird to say but Im almost enjoying my 94 R as much as my turbo 97..... almost. Until I try to get onto Pelli at 8 am....... But I like the fact that I haven't done anything except wheels and a front sway and it handles extremely well, even with a wacky alignment.

But yeah, if you find an R-package in stock good condition, it'd be good to pickup. 99 sports are getting easier to find for cheap. 89-93 are 1.6's, which are lighter, but less power. 99-00 they improved the 1.8 with a better head and slightly higher compression, 01+ they added VVT and more compression, and then theres the MSM which can haul ass with only 180rwhp (read Mr. Coatney's)

I think you should find a cheap 1.6, prep it for STS and join the ever growing pro STS group

. $4k and you've got a pax competitive car.

If you're just looking to run locally you probably want to get an NA (90-97) and set it up to run STS. You can get ridiculous amounts of info from miata.net about STS car setups. ES and STR really don't have consistent competition.

that car is seriously underprepped for STS.. and for another 1500 or so (it would take far more to get competitive) you could get a real STS car..
