I've given up on trying to find an autocross car with a back seat. I want a competitive stock class car and the only thing with a back seat that appeals to me is a Mustang. I can't afford "The" Mustangs to have in F stock. It seems like Shelby GT350's and the new 5.0's are the ones to have. I think I've decided on a C5 Corvette. 99 or 00 hard top for A stock. I've never been to any National competitions so I don't know if that is the best model to look for but on paper it seems like it would be competitive. Any advice on what to avoid or what to look for are appreciated.

If you are set on an FRC, they are all optioned the way you'd want an autocross car, so that is pretty simple.

Like Steve said... that's the car to have for AS.

If you like the Mustang but not the price tag for FS, there was a V6 that did very well in Peru in DS. It's not the no-brainer that the 'vette is but it does look pretty interesting and has the back seat.

s2000 - CR edition is the car to have for BS... it obviously doesn't have torque that the C5 does, but I've seen Jadrice best AS times on many occasions in one.

I was shopping pretty hard for an FRC when I ended up in the CRX. I actually went to Georgia and Pennsylvania to look at cars.

I think the biggest stumbling block regarding autocross potential is the gearing. I think you will find a lot of places where 1st gear is too much and 2nd gear is not enough. When Jed and I ran in Chatt earlier this year, the FRC guys ran the whole course in 1st.

This will happen @ Pelli. Although it'll be less annoying when you have a few hundred torques at low RPM to get out of the holes.

The biggest thing I'd see with a 'vette would be the tire expense to run the good stuff in AS. That said, it'd probably be ridiculous fun.

Check out CorvetteForum.com there is a large autocross contingent there who could probably answer any questions about C5 autocrossing. ConeEater (Brian) is a member here and runs a C5, I'm sure he would be glad to answer any PM's you have.

I think it would probably still work out to be cheaper than keeping A6's on a F stock Mustang. The initial tire expense would be about the same, but the Corvette would probably get more runs out of the tires due to lower weight and better suspension geometry.

Just a thought. I've never autocrossed either car.

I think the wear is actually pretty similar. Both cars are relatively easy on tires if you don't have doritos every corner.
