New-to-me miata to autocross

Post by jspadaro »

I just bought a '97 Miata with 126k on the clock for a commuter, and already I figure it probably needs to be autocrossed. :D

The car is entirely stock (aside from a steel hood...) I already did a bunch of tuneup (plugs and wires, air filter, oil, etc etc) and next step is to check out the shocks and probably replace them with Koni Str.T's if they're the originals.

You've come to the right place - Welcome.

I'm sure Miataspeak will ensue shortly, lol.

Very good choice there.!! On your shocks your wallet is the best of your fun. keeping it stock is good for an entry level. Poss mid season you wil get bored and want to go faster. You will need to look and learn and our club will help you do just that. Thanks and bring your friends to our club. PS If we do the right entry sheet to the SCCA you will get a discount for your entry to the club.

Thanks! The goal was a fun car that gets good mpg and is cheap. The miata was about the only thing that fit the bill, but its been perfect. My other vehicle is a supercharged 4x4 Tacoma with tires, suspension, armor, etc... Ive been down the mod road (spent more modifying the truck then I did for the whole miata) so I'm definitely looking to keep it stock for a good while.

Autocross is really like a drug. The first taste is free....but after you are hooked....hold on to your hat.

Two years ago my car looked like this. (This is my car)

Today it looks like this. (This is my car on "drugs")

Any questions.

I know they are only suttle differences but if you look hard you can find them.

In the miata club we would gather around a "virgin" car, brand new to its owner and suggest mods. First, you pull the teeth, then do an intake, then............
