Hossier A6 at the drag strip

Post by thewelder »

I have a friend who is looking to improve his drag time cheaply. He can't find any used drag slicks in his price range. I thought about a set of A6s from Lee. What have you all found out over the years. Thanks. Chad

No first hand experience, but I would tell them to keep looking.

I agree with Chris. Probably better than a regular street tire but probably worse than anything drag related.

nope, wont work, sidewall is too stiff and wont really get much heat in them. Used drag tires are sold when the car done blowed up, or the tires are no good.

does he run crap fuel? why run crap tires? you get out what you put in.

He is just playing around up here at street fights. He doesn't have a built motor or anything but just wants to inprove his 60 feet times. Chad

17"s. he is looking at 245 or 275. It's going on a 2004 Mustang. Chad

Try some Nitto 555Rs. They seem to work pretty well at the strip and you can still use them on a daily driver.

I've never run an A6 at the strip, but my V710s pretty much sucked for trying to get a good launch. I'd say that you will have a better launch with an all season street tire than a dedicated autocross / road race tire.

I have some wide wheels 18x11 front and 18x12 rears and they are ford svts if he is interested. He can put some wide tires on those.

A6's are terrible on a drag strip. My Miata would spin the tires in third gear on them. I had better times on crap street tires.

Here's a nearly brand new set of tires on 17 x 9" Cobra R rims:

http://knoxville.craigslist.org/pts/3769937918.html

I went and looked at them, I think they were 275 555Rs on back, some new 245 bricks (400+ treadwear) on the front.

Pretty good guy, great deal for a Mustang person...

I might be willing to cut a deal on the rims (don't need those tires)...

hmmmm I didn't have too bad of luck with mine. Yes they're not as good, but if he's just messing around I don't see the harm.

I just threw mine on because I knew my crappy street tires weren't going to be good.

I hear the 555rs are a good tire too.

I've thought abuot getting a set to mess around with at some point.

When I had my cobra, I used the Nitto 555R on the rear for street and strip use. They won't hook like a try drag radial will, but I was able to pull a 7.66 @ 93mph with a 1.8 60ft in the 1/8 mile with those tires.
