In a year of many highlights, the #1 highlight was the 32-day, 8,500 mile trip my wife and I took in our 2010 Miata MX5 "The Black Rose of Route 66" -- Route 66 to LA, then Pacific Coast Hwy to Seattle, then 5 National Parks before more of Route 66.
Attended many races (e.g., Daytona 24, Sebring 12, Mitty, 50th Annual SCCA Runnoffs), at the following tracks -- Road Atlanta (4 times); Daytona, Sebring, Summit Point, Bristol Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway; first "bucket list" visits to Road America, Laguna Seca, Thompson Motor Speedway, and Bowman Gray Stadium. A major highlight of the race season was “crewing” at two NASA Southeast endurance races for the PartsGroup MX5 Miata team.
Although I continue to be “Captain Slow”, I also did autoXs in my Miata with the SCCA (East TN Region, Chattanooga Region, Mississippi Region, and Mid-South Region) and the PCA.
Other highlights -- lots of great drives with Mountain Miatas of East Tennessee including Zooming In The Mountains where we got to autoX in the Bristol Motor Speedway infield and drive behind the pace car on the high banks, and Amelia Island and other car shows / displays / events.
Of course, the best part was getting to photograph all this, a “few” of the resulting images are presented here.
