Driving suggestions: Thru Nashville or Lex and Louisville?

Post by Scoob »

Driving out to Lincoln for Spring Nationals this week and I just realized our schedule puts us driving through Nashville right at 5:30 - not a desireable scenario I think. My other option is to drive up thru Kentucky and drive through Lexington and Louisville instead. The difference is only 20-ish miles, so no biggie. I imagine the traffice through those are better than Nashville right at high rush. Any suggestions for me?

Thanks, Scott

alter your leave time.. and go thru Nashville.. Louisville isn't no better.

I have been caught in Atlanta twice this year at rush hour.. and I swear.. its enuff to change my leave time.. or just stay at home.

Thanks, JB. I absolutely hate rush hour traffic which has led me to this issue.

With only one driver (me) I want to leave as early as possible so I can get the kids and dog to the waypoint earlier so we can actually get some sleep then leave early in the morning to finish it off. That's 10 hours on day one, so that's what's setting my departure time (kids finish school at lunch and I can pick them up there, in the right direction of the travel). The would put us to Nashville during rush, or I could divert North and go around Lexington about rush hour. Louisville would be after rush, so likely less hectic.

Anybody else want to try to dissuade me? Which way do you drive to Lincoln?

Nashville isn't as bad as Atlanta...usually. Especially since you're going to the north side of Nashville, I wouldn't be too concerned. There will definitely be increased traffic, and you'll take a little more time to get through. But, you shouldn't expect any stop/go unless there is an accident. All the interstates south of Nashville are stop/go every day, wreck or not.

I've driven both ways. I prefer taking my lumps in Nashville. I don't like driving Jellico.

edit: I once hit Nashville at around 6 pm local with a Titans preseason game starting at 7. It was still way better than St. Louis.

Is TN-45 around a viable alternative in case downtown and 155 are jammed? I would want an escape route if I try the Nashville way.

Thanks!

Lexington at rush hour isn't bad. The interstate actually avoids most of the city. However, there's a good bit of construction in KY south of Lexington and Louisville is EFFED with construction. Had to go through there last month on my way to Chicago. Go for Nashville.
