Car transport ideas?

Post by steverife »

Okay...

So I've been trying to buy something. There is a '99 Sport prepped for ES in south Florida. I don't love the idea of a car with no a/c, but it definitely fits the budget and the goal of being competitive. ...and I had fun in ES in Blytheville.

Anyway, the car owner is also selling a trailer and I was hoping to coordinate car delivery with delivery of the trailer. That isn't going to work out. Before I go any further, I would need to figure out how I can get the car. It comes with a couple of sets of wheels and some spares.

Ideas? First problem is that I can't really take off work.

Take whatever time you DO have away from work and a case of redbull. Go get it.

Get DiSimo to deliver it for you. He likes Miatas.

That'd be easier to consider if it had room for spares.

Is the trailer a car trailer, or tire trailer?

To clarify...

The trailer has nothing to do with me. The trailer was to be driven through the area in the next few weeks. I was hoping to coordinate that with delivery of the car, but that isn't going to happen.

So, the issue now is just to get a car and some spares (that I assume cannot fit within the car) back to Tennessee from south Florida without missing any work?

I've always been curious what it would cost to ship a car. I did a quick Google search and found www.weshipcars4u.com. Ft. Lauderdale to Alcoa is $620. Fuel cost only for going out there in a truck (1700 mi round trip at 16 mpg) is $250 to $300 depending on fuel costs. To fly/drive would probably be closer to $500.

The shipping option looks pretty good unless you just want a reason to go to south FL. I would be pretty torn.

IMO it's better to accept the car in person. I just don't trust the car transport companies with seemingly old and cheap cars. Also, hard/impossible to fit the spares without tearing the interior up.

The cheapest and quickest way alone is to drive down in the Nissan with borrowed trailer / rent u haul trailer. You could leave Saturday afternoon and get there really late the same day. Sunday morning pick up the car and stuff and drive back.

+1 to this plan and still - don't forget the redbull.

If I were to do that and didn't wreck and die, I'm pretty sure I'd get myself fired and/or sued and/or fined by the CFPB on Monday.

I think the only way to make this work would be to have the car shipped and maybe get the extra stuff brought to the Wilmington Pro, if I could find someone to pick it up.

Everyone else at work just went batshit crazy with PTO this summer. No Spring Nats, no Wilmington, no Toledo.

Did you buy a car from a picture? Have you ever smelled it? Have you driven it yet? Has someone stolen your feet that you need to put down so you have time to race? Just asking because we do not want you to wilt into a corner and cry.Boner up and make some deals with the time.
