2005 Elise needs corner balancing and an alignment. where to go?

Post by Boovett »

I recently purchased a 2005 Lotus Elise. After getting the car home I discovered it has Nitron street series suspension, and an adjustable sway bar. The shocks have 36 notches of adjustment, as well as ride height adjustability. The sway bar has 5 different mouting positions for its adjustment. I've never had a car with adjustable suspension so I'm a bit overwhelmed. I'd like to get the car corner balanced and aligned. I think that from there I can just use trial and error to get things set just right. I've only lived in Knoxville for about a year, so I'm not super familiar with all the local shops. Any and all help is appreciated!!

It would be a little spendy, but I'd probably go to European Auto Garage if I needed a corner balance. Or, I'd make friends with some of our road racing folks here and see who they recommend.

EAG no longer does corner balancing last I checked. However, I am also looking to have the car done once its more dialed in.

I think the guy that periodically gets on Jalopnik because he takes all your money and never gives your car back does corner balancing.

I already called European auto garage, and they don't do corner balancing.

Based on the reviews I've read, I am guessing the guy who likes to take money and keeep cars is a reference to LNS?

It would be really great if those turned up - not hard to imagine they're collecting dust in someones' garage or outbuilding...

I thought those scales were with Wayne or Ron.?? Gary at East TN Race prep used to do it but not sure if he is still working on customers cars. I know where there is a set of scales, buy the guy has zero time to work on anything. Borrowing scales is not like borrowing a socket wrench either.

Boovett, send me a PM with contact info. I do have a set of scales & ramps to corner weight my ITA Miata - not the ones owned by Henry/Hurst/Graser/Brown. I don't know the finer points of setting up an Elise but at the minimum I could help you check current setup. Won't be next weekend - I'll be at Roebling Rd helping crew for a vintage racer...

I might be able to assist as well. Between Dick H. and myself, we should be able to get some baselines and a place to start. PM me as well and I'm also headed to Savannah to test the 12A refresh in the IT7-RX7 during the VDCA "SCCA test" offering this weekend. I have roll on ramps and level plats opposite the ramps and a 2 post to access adjustments.
