STP Supplemental Class:

The STP Supplemental class will be created effective 10/20/2015 (the expected publication date of the November Fastrack). Competitors are reminded that the SEB has the power to create supplemental classes without BOD approval and that supplemental classes do not follow the same 'rules season' established classes do, so its possible that these rules may receive further tweaks as we gather experience with the concept.

Major changes since the published proposal include the addition of the 2010-2014 1LE Camaro, 2015 – 2016 Mustang, and '79-'93 Mustangs with fuel injection. The entire proposal with these updates is published here for reference:

Effective immediately add the following new class, designated STP, for inclusion as a supplemental class for all national level solo events and optional inclusion in regional events. The allowances will mirror those in the Street Touring category, with the following additions:

Tires:
•STP, Independent Rear Suspension: 285 mm maximum width
•STP, Live Axle Rear Suspension: 315 mm maximum width

Wheels:
•STP, Independent Rear Suspension: 10" Maximum Width
•STP, Live Axle Rear Suspension: 11" Maximum Width

Differentials:
•May use any mechanical LSD unit

Eligible Vehicles:
•Chevrolet Camaro (2010 - 2014) (SS, V6, 1LE)
•Chevrolet Camaro (1993 - 2002) (SS, Z28, V6)
•Chevrolet Camaro (1982 - 1992) (N/A, fuel injected) (excluding 1LE)
•Dodge Challenger (2008 - 2015) (N/A)
•Dodge Charger (2006 - 2015) (N/A)
•Ford Mustang (2015-2016) (2.3T, V6, GT)
•Ford Mustang (2005 - 2014) (GT, V6)
•Ford Mustang (1994 - 2004) (GT, V6)
•Ford Mustang (1979 - 1993) (N/A, fuel injected)
•Pontiac Firebird (1993 - 2002) (LT1, LS1, V6)
•Pontiac Firebird (1982 - 1992) (N/A, fuel injected) (excluding GTA and Formula)

American RWD V8 powered sedans, must be naturally aspirated with a wheelbase greater than 100" and a listed curb weight greater than 3200#, NOC (not eligible for national level competition)

STU Proposal modifications

The SEB and STAC have received member feedback to the STU proposal published in the July Fastrack (#14254). Spurred by that feedback, the proposal will be re-released for member comment in the November Fastrack with the only change being that AWD cars would be allowed 265mm tires (the previous proposal was 255mm tires). A final decision on what to recommend to the BOD for 2016 will follow in the December Fastrack. Interested members are encouraged to submit feedback now, rather than wait for the publication of the November Fastrack. The full proposal is shown below, for reference:

Change the following language in 14.4 WHEELS:
•STU - unlimited 11"

Change the following language in 14.3 TIRES:
•STU (2WD, Mid-Engine, Rear-Engine) - 255mm
•STU (2WD, Other) - 285mm
•STU (AWD) – 265mm

Note: The STAC and SEB are still considering which mid-engine models to classify in STU, but no decisions have been made.

Another class? Won't this STP class hurt CAM numbers?

CAM = 6 figure catalog cars + former indy 500 champs

STP - street touring for rednecks.

I'd say it is more likely to hurt FS and ESP numbers.

Some talk of this was on the Town Hall Meeting Webinar they had a few months ago. I think they said something about seeing how CAM did this season both regionally and (Nationals) 21 CAM-C / 4 CAM-S / 8 CAM-T made it to nationals ....then decide what happens to CAM? Supprized on this new mess but knew it was coming.

I don't believe that a new class like this is going to impact overall numbers very much. It is an autocross class that caters to autocrossers. Non-autocrossers are going to do different kinds of mods. It will draw from FS and ESP and from other classes (like maybe ES a few years down the road), but itsn't going to be a big impact in nationals attendance.

...and CAM still makes no sense to me, though I think it is cool on a local level.

I hope the wider tires for awd in stu gets approved. 245's just ain't big enough to have a level playing field.

I want a class and I want to call it STM.. (no, National STM) Street Tired Miata. That should better my National finish position tremendously!!!

and I think I can win if I split it into RED Miatas and Other color Miatas..

I hate to go against the flow here, but to me STP is very appealing. It would make an even better true daily driver/ full tilt autocross car, than the FRS. Not to mention that with a car like S550 Mustang or 6th gen Camaro, I wouldn't have to spend money on power mods ( besides tune ). I'll never build a 100% car and IMO you don't have to even for a National title.

Good suspension with wheels and tires, possibly a tune. Takes a weekend to build and unbuild, when the time comes.

I don't even consider if its appealing or not. If we add a class... kill a class. Im sure there are plenty of classes right now... that could be killed, and half of the auto cross society would not even know it happened.....

Yeah, new mustang will most likely dominate this class. Though I could see a properly setup 3200lb Camaro SS doing ok.

Wait, shouldn't DeWitt be all over this class?

Dewitt is already way beyond STP with his mods. STP looks appealing to me since I have a Camaro sitting around that needs a suspension and would look really good on 11" wheels. I can't afford to build anything competitive with horsepower but at least I can have fun.
