I'm upgrading the stand alone ECU (Hydra Nemesis) in my Miata so it can output data to the factory OBDII port (using CAN bus). This will let me grab rpm, boost, TPS, etc. for data logging.
However, the original NB OBD connector doesn't have pins or wiring in the CAN bus positions, so I need a connector I can pull pins and wiring from.
So, I'm looking for a NB Miata OBD2 connector with a foot or so of the wiring attached (or as much as is feasible). Anyone know of a salvage car close where I can get that? A '96/'97 NA might also work (I'm not sure if Mazda used the same pins in the connector).
If not, I'll try Classic Investments in Blountville (are they still around?) or The Parts Group in Alabama. I'd rather find it locally if possible.
Thanks for any pointers.

I'm 95% sure those connectors are universal, if you're not above cutting and splicing.

Anyone have a 96 or newer car laying around I can cut the OBD connector out of?

I have a non-running Ford F-150 4x4 that you can buy and cut the plug off of.

Pins are not universal between all makes, fyi. Tried fitting Nissan pins in a mazda plug. Worked, but required some cutting and bending. I'd look at other same generation mazdas at pull a part.

Oh no, definitely not! My point was if you're cutting/splicing anyway, just do the whole plug from whatever vehicle at PAP. Not mixing and matching plugs and pins. His adapter/dongle/whatever will fit into it and make connection, because OBD is universal. I don't think the pinout of the connector is universal, though, at least for CAN locations.GaryM wrote:Pins are not universal between all makes, fyi. Tried fitting Nissan pins in a mazda plug. Pin location and count varies based on the obd2 protocol the ecu uses. For something standardized, you'd be amazed how many variations there are.

I believe we have a 99 with the harness still in the car. Contact Sean McDonald he can confirm this.
