Ouch - is that the Mazda 3 hydraulic PS pump?

Is it actually drawing that much amperage?

I've been doing the Saturn electric PS conversion this winter (and the Lowballers have done it too).

You have to wire it for 60A (rated max), but I have yet to seen it draw 10A (275 V710s).

And response is infinitely adjustable (potentiometer for speed signal).

The pump at lock will draw 40 amps. Idle it will draw 8. The Saturn / Yaris etc etc electric columns are not a legal option for me in SSM. We are not allowed to swap the steering colum. The only legal options for us in SSM are the hydro-electic pumps which are noisy and draw a lot of current.

But we can mount them in the trunk which is where the need to be :)

I'm resigned to not every doing anything in the off-season. I'm beginning to think that the car won't be ready for the first local or Dixie.

Turbo install completed, still working on finishing touches with the tune but that will probably always be the case with Megasquirt. Finished the electronic boost controller install as well. The car on wastegate pressure feels pretty solid, kinda feels like my old EF civic with a B16. High peak power with a bit more torque. When I have the EBC on and pushing 12lbs the car takes on a completely different tone, lol. I really need to get some more tire under the car.

Here is a 2nd to 4th gear pull. A bit rich but I am running some pretty aggressive timing. Little noise in the RPM signal but overall the car is pretty well sorted.

Check out some of the build.

Now you need to flip your headers over and run them open. I'm sure it would pass sound.

Hey; you might be on to something. It would be loud as hell but with most of the sound energy going up (away from the meter) it might not register that bad... hmmmmm

I'm sorry, did JB just say BFGs for his car? Has someone hijacked his account?!

He's been known to blow smoke where the sun don't shine.

I've bumped into the kart many times over the winter. It works great as a parts tray and bench. If I don't get the white Jetta fixed I won't be able to get the kart out of the garage.. Oh, there's a couch in the back of the suburban. I need to find a curb to drop it on...
